Been carrying this 5.11 XBT A6 in my truck for a couple years and I really like it. Great throw with good spill, good output, reasonably tough and light (with L91’s). I like that it runs off AA cells so I can use lithiums but have the option of roadside replacement at any gas station. It also will run of either 3 or 6 cells (must be a 2 paralleled stacks of 3 series). The one thing I don’t like is the cold white XML.
Anyways, I recently picked up a second one off ebay for under $20 and want to mod the emitter. Waiting for the spare to arrive to open it up since it feels glued but my first thought is to just reflow a new led on whatever pcb they used originally. I think they came with XML (not XML2) LEDs so I’m thinking about going with a moderate CRI neutral tinted XML2 but I’m having trouble reading the binning codes on these newer leds. On Mouser I think I found the right options. Looking for a 80+ CRI 4000k (roughly) XML2 and I’m seeing Mouser part number 941-XMLBWT000HT30E5. Is this the correct LED? Is there a better option out there for my goals? Has anybody else opened up one of these 5.11 lights?
