Wire?

Just wondering if there's anything special to the wire used in LED lights or if I'd be safe to cannibalize some wire from an old computer for a project I'm working on? Mostly I'm concerned about the heat resistance of the insulation after reading stories of emitters getting hot enough to desolder themselves.

Thanks,

Tony

I like the single strand teflon coated wire, but anything will work.

Thanks! Radioshack was going to be my first stop if I couldn't use what I have laying around. I hate getting into a project and then having to stop and wait for parts. Half the time they don't get finished.

Where is your solid teflon wire from?

I have some great finely stranded silicone wire from a group buy. More flexible then a wet noodle.

I get Teflon Coated wire from ebay. The teflon insulation does not melt when soldering. I use anywhere from 24ga to 18 ga depending on the amperage of the LEDs. There are several sellers on ebay listing short lengths of Teflon Wire.

Ebay is the way to go when buying wire because of the relatively small amount we need.

I get stuff from seller navships. No complaints.
