Recommend a Dog walking light for my Girlfriend

Hi,

I could probably find this on my own but with your help it should be faster and more variety/choices is always better.

A Dog walking EDC type around the house Flood light type beam for my Girlfriend.

What it has to have:Requirements

-$50 or less

-Side switch[no tactical lights!]

- 5000K to 6500K Tint

- Holster would be great to protect it.

-Preferably 18650 consider 26650 or 21700 if it is the right fit.

- NEEDS to fit protected batteries which are safer for an amateur/beginner!

-USA dealer. I do not want to have to wait 3, 4, 5 weeks or more and the possible hassle of malfunction or never receiving the light.PLUS warranties are much more doable in my home country than Banggood,Gearbest ect.

–800 to 1000 Lumens is plenty.

-NO PROPRIETARY BATTERIES!

-USB is welcome.

That is all I can think of for now.

Thanks

Energizer series of Vision HD. Perfect... rechargeable, side switch, floody and nice tint. Price is a no-brainer. They make a 6AA version also-have one-and I put rechargeables in it.

As someone who walks dogs every night I appreciate a headlamp. The clip will work just find for hands free dog duty if she does not want to wear it as a head lamp.

Wurkkos FC11. It’s $30 on Amazon

  • USB-C (nonstandard - A-to-C only) charging
  • Battery included (unprotected, but protected will fit, and the light has LVP of its own)
  • 5000K Samsung LH351D
  • 90+ CRI
  • Ramping UI
  • Magnetic tailcap

The Energizer sounds clever. Is there one spot LED and one flood LED?

Is the strobe hidden? Easy to get to/from? I find the biggest hazard dogwalking is oblivious drivers blowing through pedestrian crosswalks, so I like a flashlight that’s easy to set to STUN ….

For a US supplier to US customers I have been consistently happy with Dorcy. Great responsive customer service the one time I had a problem (I dropped the light and it broke; they replaced it).
And they have a fairly wide variety of flashlights available. Also frequent seasonal and 2-for-1 sales. Dorcvy Deals | Dorcy

Emisar d4 or mt35 with xhp50 (oops, too late)

The original SC31 is an all-around great light for The Muggle.

The ’B is a bit throwier, and I find a floodier beam more useful close-in.

Ooh, nice simple light — in warm-white! — is the SD02/WK20

35bux and 5% coupon.

Slap on some diffusion film, and it’s an awesome light for outdoors, a nice blanket of warm light almost as smooth as an aspheric.

Astrolux ec01, fireflies e01

Yeah this is the way to go, full pkg, simple UI.

Meets all your requests except it does not come with a holster.

On mine from off 3 fast clicks activates strobe. Energizer does some kind of trick with the led's that when you hold the switch down you can go from wider to narrower beam. I really like mine... never thought I'd say that about stuff that used to be department store junk.

For daytime walks, however, I take a much higher power light with me and use it for a daytime strobe. Soon's stupid drivers see it you hear the foot come right off the gas. There's one sharp curve near the house where I almost got whacked out 3 times.

Immediately thought of two lights.

Olight s2r baton II. Easy, small, powerful (big bright spot), cool tint, side switch, magnetic charging which is really easy. A little pricy, but they do run sales regularly. This is the light I keep in my office bag/brief case in case I walk into a construction site with a client and there’s no power. It’s easy to keep charged and so far very dependable.

Second

Sofirn SP32A V2.0. Very good light at a great price, a hot spot and a bit of flood. Also very easy to use with an illuminated/power indicator side switch and usb charging. This is the light I gave to my father who liked some of my lights but wanted something easy and I didn’t want to get into the whole charging and safety thing.

Sorry no comparison pics at the moment.

Thanks dorpmuller that’s very helpful.

Yep. Same here. Except the ones who speed up hoping to get through the intersection before I get halfway across the crosswalk into their lane.
Makes me want to be carrying a crate of nitroglycerine, sometimes.

For dogwalking, the critical variables aside from traffic hazards are: day or night? and on-lead or off?

No way in hell I let anyone off lead. They'd be gone in a flash. I aim the strobe toward traffic if I'm crossing and someone is within a few hundred feet.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I looked for 90 minutes and the best one I found was: ThruNite TC15 Rechargeable LED Flashlight

I may have gone away from the PROTECTED battery requirement, however if that did not work the light does have a battery level indicator listed on Illumns site. Theirs is $10 more.

I have to say I like that Wurkkos FC11. Nice light and very economical.

I am not sure yet. At this point I like the Wurkkos FC11 or the Thrunite TC15. Now I can really complicate it by getting her input!

I forgot to mention that her Dog is 14 and she just walks her around her yard!

If you end up choosing the TC15, buy it directly from Thrunite. Cost is 59.99, but they have a 20% off coupon and free shipping, which makes it cheaper than your link. Ships from USA, cool white available.

OK. Thanks.

She likes that one.I am getting NW. I sent her links and a video review of the TC15. That is the one I am getting for her. She has potential to be a flashaholic!

Thanks everyone for your suggestions

I think she is a flashaholic already.

She called me and said the guy in the video said it was 2000 lumens not 2300!

Just ordered through Thrunite. :+1:

Now that that’s settled, a tangential question

Can anyone recommend an illuminated dogtag/collar?

I see coin cell powered collar dangles, and blinky collars with color changing LEDs, are out there. Making it easier to find an off-lead dog in the dark.

The TC15 is also a solid option. Doesn’t have the FC11’s color quality or magnet, but does have a shortcut to low, a higher high, and better efficiency. It’s less floody, but still a decent mix of flood and throw. (Note: I have both of these lights, and both were provided by their respective manufacturers for review)

In my testing, the TC15 did hit its advertised 2300 lumen output. There’s probably some variation between samples though, and mine was CW (until I changed the emitter) which might be a flux bin higher than the NW.

Most of those dog collars operate on coin cells. I prefer a light with rechargeable AAA cells.
If you have a sausage dog, it may touch the dirt. My Schnauzer is larger than that (see Avatar).

Atm I use a Fenix CL05 liplight. Not certain if they are still made, maybe you’re lucky.
Also useful and cheaper is the AngryFox PlayFox K1, it comes wit three rubber “caps” (RGB).
IMHO the ultimate light for (mid => larger) dogs is the Sofirn C01 plus a regular white diffuser.
You only need 3-5 lumen, and because it has a vampire driver it goes on and on for ever.
