Aspheric PT54 Red BEAM SHOT

Enclosed are a couple of pics. One is my feeder lights and the other is feeder light with ASPT54 Beam shot. My FL are made of 2 3up XRE red stars and are solar powered and run max setting total 6leds @ 700ma rated total 240 lumen. My Aspheric PT54 red 700 lumen maglite is listed on this forum else where. These shots were @ 110 yds. Estimate beam width 30ft.

that's awesome. you can get that emitter in green, too, right? Won't that be even brighter? I've got my pt54 mounted but still have some work to do on the host. It is the total opposite - massive flood. Next I'll do a gun light w/ one of these. What host and lens are you using?

Very cool

Maglite 2D experiment host (photo light) rock cuz of most adjustable focus length. Lens is from DX. Word of caution as I have ordered several sizes from DX/KD/Lightake etc. NO two lenses are the same and NO quality control period. To the novice (ME) they look good but in actual use just plain pitiful junk with 1in4 hit rate. Defects can range from swirls, micro bubbles and inconsistent focal length. Results are mutiple images and poor light transmission. Hopefully waiting on better lenses that have been ordered. My OPINION is red spooks game less. On CPF where all the EXPERTS hang out there are a few threads on the subject of rods, cones and fuzzy dice. Green is superior in every other respect. PT120 green is a battery eating hand warming monster. Game warden came by on his annual stop and it was a major WOW factor (kid in a candy store, envy/want one). Although I don't have a SST90 green or PT54 green but have to believe they would be a better choice if driven properly. Saw a 9A single mode bike driver at KD. Did you order that one? The host with the most (2x18650) try looking at the MF TR1200 @ $13.

I was thinking MF usa168 w/ xre green for a .22 and something bigger for ar10T. I think the adjustable mag lite sounds like the right way to go w/ the inconsistent lenses.

I didn't order the KD, my pt54 is running off DX sst-90. it is a little lacking...5.5A, but it fits so well in my host, plus I'm too impatient to wait.

I will try the KD 9A next though. I wish they had more info on it. I hope it has a mode other than HI, preferably no flashy (other reason I stuck w/ DX sst-90 driver, I did want flashy modes in flood light).

Feeder lights or hand flashlights are primary. My weapon lights for hunting are mostly secondary lights. Have 501b xre greens on my crossbow and aspheric on my 500s&w Saiga. My 308 will have the PT54 red setup. Just not satisfied with lenses at the moment. Want a repeatable fixed lens setup. May convert the CB/Saiga to red later. Heat sinking the weapon lights isn't much of an issue, short run times. Thought about using a spring loaded trigger style pot instead of mode driven emitter for the best in critter lighting, gradual increasing the brightness to the needed level. Kind of like I use spill, pointing my light up, then moving the light slowly on the game.

Would think that 5.5A would push some high lumen. If you get a chance check the voltage at the emitter. Our sources (DX,KD) are very lacking in the specs department. I may order a KD 9A, very tempting. Have a couple of AW IMR1600s laying around.

checking voltage is a good point. I forget what the spec sheet says - 2.4, or 2.8, something like that, but it does say 3.5v max

we might find out that 9A at 3.5v toasts it, but my guess is it will not in a weapon (short use) light.

Did either of you guys end up building the light in the TR1200 host? I would love to see how you did it.

Finished the heat sink except the 2-56 tapped holes. Insulators and contacts are finished. Have 4 Optolife 50mm lenses. Myself and a coworker are building 4 all together. Doing this on the job on our own after hours as time permits. Will share this… Lens will be recessed, have a built in crown. May have to fet switch.

Great! I can't wait to see it. I really want to build the same thing. Are you using that KD 9A bike light driver? Is the optolife lens an easy fit in the TR1200?

Am using two 4 /3AF NiMH cells (18650 size) direct drive for these. We are machining the TR1200 host for heatsink press fit and lens depth to precise fixed focal dimension and 1” rings. Main gripe about DX vendor type lenses besides optical quality was inconsistent dimensional and focal length. Am able to figure focal length with a Maglite with it's long adjustable thread length and transfer this to our TR1200 hosts. This is not a lego/drop in. If you want a simpler version that would be rifle mountable the choice would be a Maglite C. Although I haven't measured have read the od can lathe turned to 30mm scope ring size. Over on CPF they sell H22 heatsinks maybe for the C. Tenergy C NiMH ampere dischage rate is simlar to the Ds although capacity is less. The build could also incorporate 26650s or look for a suitable host with adequate heat sinking and run a single Lifepo4 direct drive these running lower voltage.

Thanks for that, I think after reading that I might try and do a mag c build first . I've only just started researching the PT54's and I have never done a serious mod before.

BTW my PT54 & PT120 Maglite builds have been with the D size.

Thanks, I saw that. I've been stalking your posts on here and on CPF lol. I really need to do a heap of research.

I only have red xpe’s, the pT54 thats an awesome amount of red, I was told 3 volts @ 13 amps. Even at 5 to 9 amps that’d be gorgeous

DTR is highly respected in LPF and he sells these, is $14 a good price?

Seen you on Cpf. Welcome to Blf. DTRLPF is the go to guy for red PT54 leds. Nice guy. Like most electronics they are getting cheaper. I bought a red PT121 from him recently. I need to update my BLF TR1200 host PT54 build to show the latest developments.

Cool, DTR was really helpful so I ordered up two bare Phatlight reds.
Hiya Willie  yeah im also on LPF but I don’t post very often, Erik known as GBD is a coworker of mine

I’m not a member at LPF. Nice place full of good info. Many ways to power the PT leds. I have used ICR/IMR 18650s or SLA 6v with switching regulators. Used direct drive with NiMH D,C, 4/3AF & AA and LiFePo4 3.2v . Best watch ampere load. My only emitter kill was due to high voltage with a driver mistake. Voltage kills emitters quicker than amps IMHO.
