new here, thinking of a headlamp

Hi All, new to the forums and to the world of real flashlights. Am wanting to get a good headlamp. Live out in the country so things get pretty dark at night. Wanting to get a good headlamp thats bright but also lights up a pretty wide area. Will be using it for a bit of everything, walking the dog, fishing, camping etc. None of the typically available headlamps provide enough light for me. Looking for something that can light up a fairly wide area, as well as a fair distance. Available in Canada would be a plus too.
Any help appreciated.
Mike

Welcome to BLF

Wide area and fair distance is quite opposite, you will need two LEDs with different optics, have a look at:
1. YLP Panda 3
2. Fenix 65R

BTW there is a special forum category for Headlamps

Welcome to BLF Mike.
You can’t go wrong with Zebralight

I think YLP Panda 3 would be good choice. Well enought for outdoor activity

D-10 .. 10$ whats not to love ?

I believe Armytek is based in Canada. Picked up the Wizard Pro Nichia recently, it’s a nice floody headlamp. The code BLF35 worked on their site for a nice discount when I picked one up a couple months ago. My other one is a Skilhunt H03.

If you want a great budget headlamp, I would recommend the Boruit D10. You can also somewhat easily swap out the LED if you want a different tint. The stock LED is pretty good though, plenty bright and a nice cool white tint.

Here’s a link to a BLF review: Boruit Headlamp Review D10 (aka. EHL0628) - King of the Budget Headlamps?

Consider yourself bamboozled. They are a Chinese-Belarusian company.

Well, either shame on them or maybe it’s you who was bamboozled?

Shame on them, I know my shit. Google that adress. They even don’t have a store in Canada, and for sure no production line.

Their facebook page is runned by somebody who is not an English native speaker. A bit smelly for a “Canadian” company.

So here they are a Chinese company registred in Canada. In my eyes that doesn’t make them a Canadian manufacturer .

Can’t argue with the positive feedback of the Special Forces though.

I’m not bashing AT. In fact I think they makes the best headlamp currently on the market tbh. But please don’t buy their marketing bullshit like this:

Apparently some NASA engineers have an extra part time job at Armytek to come round in this rough times :person_facepalming:

Maybe a french canadian

Thanks for the additional context, I can definitely agree on the above points.

Hadn’t really looked into their marketing before, just remembered being surprised when I got the light and read the box that they were “based” in Canada. I had always assumed they were a Chinese company like so many of the others. (Not that there’s anything wrong with that.)

To help with the OP’s original question, it would be beneficial if we knew what form factor, price, and features are desired. AA, 18650, onboard lithium battery? Traditional style headlamp with light in the middle or a L-shaped tube light? Max/min lumen output? Color temp?

I like my Acebeam H30. They have a choice of different side LED colors, but the main LED is white.

Recommend you look at the Skilhunt H04 or Armytek wizard pro Nichia.

Zebralights are great too.

Thanks all for the comments! Lots of good info to think of so far! I had completely missed the headlamp section somehow, but going to be spending some time there.
As per details of what I’m really looking for. That is up in the air. Just looking for something that can give me good light along the road while walking the dog at night, or getting back to the truck after an evening of fishing. Of course it would get lots of use while camping also. Admittedly I’m always just bought the basic headlamps available at Walmart and places of the like, so almost anything would be a step up.

A couple I had seen and considered are the Fenix HM65R and Acebeam H50. Though that has to do with availability from Canadian stores. Not so sure about international shipping with the current state of affairs.

Thanks again all!

I’ve got both h50(nichia) and hm65r, I like them both a lot!

If you like hm65r, i think that you would like panda 3 too. You can simply mix long range led with flood led, or use them independly for your task. As example, yesterday i was in forest and use thrower + little wide for walking and with single click turned to simply little wide when makes hot tea for me and daughter. Of course, P3 could not replace special thrower like acebeam ec01 or lumintop GT, but as headlamp you would have good possibility to look for a middle distance and work by hands on close. Somewhere on forum discount code exist.

I also wanna buy a ylp panda 3, but all ylp headlamps are out of stock severall weeks now…
I also believe it’s a solid headlamp

I think this flashlight is more solid and universal than d10 (which advantages mostly in cheapness). May be some zebralights and acebeams is better in someone, but thay are more expensive.
I have skilhunt h03, but with stock tir, it has so spotted light for handworking. And if change for wide angle tir - no any middle distance of light.
