Help selecting light

I’m sorry that this is a re-hash type topic, but i don’t know all the different brand and manufacturers lineups quite yet.

I’m looking for a general purpose type light and to use for walking and outdoors.

Size: convoy c8+ size max
switch: front side switch
UI: smooth ramping, Anduril, Narsil M, or similar.
Brightness: not a huge concern with today’s lights but turbo of at least 2000.
Throw: 100 meters appx.
Battery: 18650
led: not a huge concern I like 5K or whiter
Budget: About $50 U.S dollars

I would like my choice to be usa-non china warehoused, so i don’t have the order from china problems right now. I would put the astrolux ec01 on my looking list but it is china only i believe.

I’m looking at the Fireflies E01, E07 Emisar D4v2.

I’m not sure what sofirn has in the C8 type that would work.

I currently have convoy c8+ xpl hi, Convoy s2+ sst40 4 mode, astrolux ft03, sofirn sp40, convoy sst20 8*7135 4k.

Thanks for any suggestions.

EDC18?

The Sofirn C8F is good, way over 2000lm though. Or if you want more throw the C8G. Sofirn has US warehouses. Or buy something from Mountain Electronics. The Emisar D4V2 is nice.

Thank You for your comments. I would be interested in any comparisons between any of my lights listed, especially the Emisar and Fireflies e07.

ThruNite TC15

Has the 18650 battery size you want. It has 2300 lumens on turbo. Says it throws up to 800 feet (243 meters).

C8F-21700. Can’t go wrong.

C8F has 3 xp-l hi and has great throw and decent flood. It has room for a 21700 battery and can also take a 18650. The C8G has 21700 like the C8F, but is a single emitter xhp35 hi and has mainly throw, but is usable for general purpose. The Emisar has 4 emitters under a Carclo optic (no reflectory) so it’s super tiny, single 18650 but can run 18500 or 18350 with different tubes. Up to 4200lm with xpl-hi option, but also comes in Nichia 219 and Luminus sst-20. Gives mainly flood, but with different optics you can get decent throw too. If you want a EDC, Emisar. For an all around, C8F. Use 21700 cells!

Thank you Sirstinky for the breakdown. I like Sofirn in general, but there availability shipping wise isn’t good. I’m not concerned if its 21700 i know you can get converters to use the 18650 if needed in emergency. Most likely I would just get the sofirn 21700 cells. I will remember this info for the future.

I am very interested in the Emisar D4V2, and the different led options. They are available from Mountain Electronics. I’m not sure which purpose the different led’s serve. I’m not necessarily chasing turbo lumens; out of default I would go xpl-hi or sst-20 because I’m familiar with them, but not sure of a why. I’m sure these lights get hot quick.

I looked at firefly review videos and they seem nice, anyone like to comment on how they compare to an Emisar D4V2. I’ve heard these get hot too, and a few people have noticed QA/QC issues.

You don’t even need an adapter to use an 18650 in a C8F unless battery-rattle bugs you, and that’s only if you shake it. Otherwise wrap a napkin or piece of paper-towel around it, and you’re done.

D4V2 XP-L Hi 5D is very pleasing tint and plenty bright. Does get hot quickly no doubt but Anduril lots of flexibility. MtnE shipped mine very quick ordered Sun had it Wed.

That said, the C8F mentioned earlier is a very good no nonsense pick for general purpose light.

I agree 100% with the Sofirn C8F recommendations.

I forgot it can run on a 18650, silly me. It is one of my all time favorite torches.

I’d like to thank everyone for there comments. I decided to order a Sand Emisar D4V2 sst20 6500k from Mountain Electronics. I like the anduril and aux light features, and I’m sure I won’t get lost. Maybe when life gets a little more back to normal I’ll feel more comfortable with the long shipping from Sofirn.

We’ll the flaslight bug bit me, I decided to add a Lumintop BLF gt mini pro 50.2. Matt Smith added another video, and the beamshots look like what I’m looking for. I found one at Illumin.com I believe there our of California.
