Just to say that I’m not picking on any specific technology company, just the inequity of haves and have-nots.

So many great pictures, I think I’ll pass the throne to Souichirou, for his picture has the greatest contrast and composition.

That was an amazing batch of photos for this subject! Multiple winners, but only one could be chosen, obviously.

Thanks leestrong for picking me, Lets keep with a similar theme of juxtaposition and see what everyone can come up with.

Okay then. Thank you!

Show me old lanterns. Preferrably some kind of action shot, but it can be oil paintings, sketches, photos… whatever works.

OMG the BLF LT1 is on wikipedia under Lantern, who’d have known!
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lantern#History

This one from the 15th century is about as old as I could find – sorry about the photo…. they only had 0.000001mp back then lol! I would have put the whole painting, but for the life of me I couldn’t find it!
It is a nativity scene for sure though.

I thought that I could succeed, but should have known that G0OSE was right about not being able to find it. The Oberhausmuseum Passau has apparently managed to restrict releases of this image to details such as the lamp above and perhaps four others (the “missing” fourth is of a shoe, demonstrating the typical nativity display as if the Christ were White, often rich, and born in medieval or renaissance Europe).

So, 600 years after this painting was made it appears that you must visit the museum in person to see it. There are numerous nativity derivatives that appear in search engines, but the Wolfgang Sauber version has apparently been defended from photographers for centuries Wink .

Most derivatives lack the lantern, but there’s a relief that shows a similar one in a similar location, along with an extremely pale Mary to suit European tastes Silly . Our 21st Century Mary would be painted as medium-dark and thicc af:

(NOT AN ENTRY)

In original, animals are foreground lower-right corner, Joseph is background and above them, while most derivative artists were wimps and wanted Joseph in foreground.

Some Carbide action anyone?

I used to have a Justrite carbide lamp once upon a time.
