C8 Pills- Are All Created Equal?

Hi all. I’m looking to mod some old style C8’s with screw in pills (no shelf). They are both aluminum and I want to swap them for brass. I pulled them apart and noticed the pills are different sizes? What gives? They are similar, but dimensionally the thread diameter on C8 A pill is 1.2 to 1.3mm larger than C8 B’s pill. I can’t swap the two between them even though they look similar by the naked eye. The height is fine and the upper shelf diameter is okay, it’s the threads that don’t match. One’s too big and the other too small. I sourced some online and deduced the thread spacing is 1mm x 22 or 22.8mm for them.

Anyone else run into this? Am I stuck with aluminum pills?

Unno. I bought a bunch of Crap8s with dinky little Al pills, and got some generic brass ones from FT which fit almost perfectly. Threaded right in but height was iffy at first, but I found a way to screw everything in quite tightly, no gaps anywhere.

Being that I wasn’t running them too high-strung, I could’ve even left the crappy pills and been done with it, but I wanted to do it up right. Just an XP-E2 at 1.4A or so. Nice and throwy.

As for different diameters and threads, unno. Standard brass C8 pills fit these donks just fine.

Possible to backfill them with Cu shot and Fujik or anything?

Im planning on running high output. Ones an xm-l that will have a fet driver and the other has an XR-E in it that will be overdriven. I’m running it now on a driver meant for the xm-l and it’s hanging in there. It will eventually be switched for a sst40 and fet driver.

These were what I was looking at from Kaidomain…C8 Pillar and this one: C12 Pillar

No clue which would work since the originals are a bait under 16mm overall length, but the threads are strange. 9ne has shorter threads and the other longer threads. I’m trying to avoid buying them amd waiting for a month or two to figure out they don’t fit. I have a zoomie that takes a C12 or C8 pill that I’ll try tonight and see if that works.

My experience with replacement pills is that they have slim chance of fitting because of all the variations of lights made from different factories, etc…

I tried the pill from my zoomie and it fit one host, but not the other. It looks to be closer to the C12 KD sells though. I gave up and just used the aluminum pills and they’re working for now. I may modify them later on, or try a swap. The sst40 with Convoy 4-mode sst40 driver melted the stock switch in one so I need a replacement. The main issue is they use 16mm mcpcbs that make centering the led not straightforward.
