Hello everybody

Hi!
I have posted a couple of times here but I haven’t introduced myself yet.
I am a gemologist, I study colored gemstones such as sapphire, ruby, emerald etc. I got into the flashlight hobby rabbit hole when I was looking for a good quality UV light. I got caught and now I own a little bit to much lights that I want to admit lol. My favorite light so far is the D4SV2.

As a gemologist I am deeply interested in flashlights with ultra high color accuracy to reproduce the appearance of gemstones as they would be under natural sunlight. My lamp of choice is the Nitecore MT06D with Nichia 219b 5000k, the tint is so incredibly white, dead on the BBL.
Recently I have been thinking about upgrading to something even better. My dream light would be multi-emitter with ultra high CRI emitters of different CCT with the ability to switch between warm white and cool white, even ramping from one another. I am still a complete novice in building a light but I believe there is a lot of resource here to help me make my dream happen

Cheers

Thanks for joining the party, Joemenix!

Welcome, Joemenix. :person_with_crown:

At the moment there are only two flashlights with tint ramping that I know of, the Sofirn IF25 and the BLF LT1.

The Nichia 219B SW45K are said to have the best CRI and are among the rosiest leds I’ve ever seen. The SST20 FA3 and the LH351D (maybe dedomed) are not bad either.

Welcome

Welcome to our brightly lit world!

Welcomeee

Thanks all

Hi and welcome Joemenix. It sounds like you like living on rocky ground.

Welcome aboard! If you’re really serious about achieving the most desirable LED tint in a preferred host of choice, there is the “rabbit hole” of modification. There’s a very strong sub-group here devoted to this and are often willing to share advice. You may want to consider a Jetbeam RRT-01 modified with a Nichia emitter. The RRT-01 has an infinitely variable magnetic control ring so you can very precisely adjust the brightness. I would think this could be a huge asset for a gemologist.

Welcome Joemenix

Welcome. But are gemstones rocks or minerals?(breaking bad joke)

Again, thanks guys

I plan to make my dream light from scratch  I am no idea yet how I am gonna do but I plan to design the light, choose the right emitters and drivers, maybe code the UI… a little bit of learning first, I have very specific requirements. You will probably see me ask questions around.

@polarweis gemstones can be minerals, coral, pearl, glass, synthetic materials, even plastic

Welcome to BLF!

Curious to see what you’ll come up with…
Please let us know.

Thanks, I will make a thread about my project shortly

Welcome!

Welcome to BLF Joemenix! If you want the highest CRI, you should consider the Nichia Optisolis or E21A/E17A. Good luck with your quest.

Hey thanks
I actually contacted Clemence and he suggested me Nichia Optisolis too
