What will you pack for your next camping trip?

Summer is the season of outdoor campings. Some of you are currently not able to go camping due to the lockdown in some areas. But we are still dreaming of falling asleep underneath our tents and waking up beside a lake in the hills. I’d like to list the camping essentials according to my previous camping experience.

Tent - unless you plan to sleep on your vehicles like an RV or van, please triple check whether you packed your tent. If your plan is backpacking plus camping, then a super lightweight tent is perfect. I have one with 1.7KG.

Sleeping pad or air mattress - if you’ve ever slept on the floor, you know how terrible you feel the next day. So investing in a sleeping pad or camping air mattress is really necessary. choose the one that can be quickly blown up and packed down.

Sleeping bag or blankets - Sleeping bags go with tents like peanut butter goes with jelly. Even in the warm summer, there is always a chance it gets really cold in the middle of the night. If you are unprepared, then you’ll have to scramble to add multiple layers of clothes to stay warm.

Camping light - it’s important to have a reliable light when wild camping. A headlamp for you to do your tasks without handle it by hand. And a LED lantern or flashlight that can be hung to the top of the tent for your group to play cards or light the trail to the restroom. Also, don’t forget to take a spare flashlight and some rechargeable batteries.

Warm rainproof clothes - a warm down jacket is essential for a wild campaign all year round. Choose the one that is super warm and packs down really small. It can also be made as a great pillow at night.

Camping stove - a small and light portable camping stove is essential if you don’t have a campfire to cook with. There are fire bans in some campsites.

Cooking pans and utensils - prepare a super light and durable cooking pan and some cups, bowls, plates, and forks, etc. This will help you to enjoy a great camping meal.

Survival knives - a trusty survival knife is essential for you in the wild. It is also ideal for the tasks like cut a rope, fillet a fish, or whittle a walking stick. Consider a lightweight and compact one.

Water containers - water filters/tablets and a large water container are perfect for camping. You need to know what the water situation is before you go.

Backpack - finally you need a backpack to pull all the gears in for an overnight camp.

OK. Those are my camping essentials. Of course that’s not everything packed in my backpack.

Are you going to plan a camping trip? And if there is a chance, what camping essentials will you take?

Too many bugs out there. I’m like sugar to them.

Firestarters, like sparkin’ rods? Sawdust “dissolved” in molten wax, hardened, then cut like mini-brownies, makes good tinder in an Altoids tin.

Rope?

Compass?

Own tent is a safer place than a rented room so it’s a good time to go camping.

Flashlights are essential of course. I’d make sure I had some rods and tackle to catch some decent fish for a feed

I would add to the list: substituted phenethylamines, X65, .50 Desert Eagle and tofu jerky.

I usually bring some friends, Jack Daniels, Elijah Craig, or Jim Beam himself. I leave Old Grandad at home.

I forgot- toilet paper and baby wipes.

I’d pack some ham radio and fishing gear. :stuck_out_tongue:

Just got back from a camping trip a week ago. Going on another one in about 10 days.

For lights, it’s usually my trusty Convoy S2+, then Ultratac A1, and a few headlamps and lanterns, and a tent light with a bug zapper built-in.

Then some folding knives (Ganzo and some others), a Fireside Friend, a fan, a BT speaker, and some power banks.

Finally, some coolers with food and drinks.

Whoa, I don’t want them to stick to me; I want to repel them, just like the wily porcupine does.

That’d be like wearing the Suit Of Many Hooks.

I pack the trailer (14 foot), hook up the Tacoma, make sure I have my LT1 and hit the road. We used to tent and sleep in the back of the truck.

I take this camping

Looking at the above link, I am not seeing any “camping” lights there.

Camping gear that’s been with me on a consistent basis is usually a solid workhorse and on usually on the lighter side.

In no particular order: EMS 20 degree down sleeping bag, Thermarest Z-Lite pad, Hennessey hammock or lightweight EMS 2-person tent (can’t remember the model), Zebralight H600Fd III headlamp, MSR Pocket Rocket stove, Scarpa hiking shoes (various models), Mora fixed blade knife (Companion, 2000 or another one). Many of them have served me well for decades.

As far as lighting goes, I always have these in the camper:
Streamlight Super Siege lantern
Sofirn BLF SP36
LUMINTOP EDC18
Olight I3T EOS
Sofirn SP40 headlamp

Wife carries Klarus MI1C in Rose color.

Daughter has NITECORE LR10 Panda mini lantern, LUMINTOP GT Micro and NITECORE NU32 headlamp.

I also have a LUMINTOP Tool 2.0 and Sofirn D25S headlamp for the niece or daughter’s friends if they tag along.

I think that pretty well covers it… lol

Nice! :+1:

Ew, ew, ew. Talk about a nightmare where you’re covered with bugs…

Anyone tries telling me “black flies matter” and I’ll punch ’em in the face.

The very idea just skeeves me.

And I’m one of those people who’s just a target for every bug out there. In a room with 100 other people, there could be one big fat mosquito that just engorged itself on a huge meal, and it’d still find some way to waddle over to bite me.

“Oh, that’s ’cause you’re just so sweet…”

“Shut up.”

Oh, and I goggled Thermacell. Looks interesting, as long as there aren’t any cats around.

Would kinda defeat the purpose, though, ’cause I only bravely venture out into the Mosquito Factory outside to sit with the cats at (their) feeding time.

I always loved the idea of camping, but the first bug I’d see, typically heading right towards me, snaps me back to reality.

I think I’m the only person in creation who ever got bit by a ladybug. Ain’t kidding, and I got a witness. Friendly little critter crawling up my arm, stops, then… “Ow. Ow! OW!!”. Had to swat it off me. Like, wtf??

That was an Asian Lady Beetle. Looks similar but TOTALLY different from the harmless ladybug.

Yup…
