Fenix Tk20

You guys think that the Fenix TK20 is best to satisfy these criteria? Here's a link to a review of the light in question:

http://www.flashlightreviews.com/reviews/fenix_tk20.htm

My criteria for this next light:

-2xAA

-ready to go right out of the box

-super tough, solid construction, reliable, etc.

-neutral emitter

-forward clicky with momentary on

-ability to tail-stand

-good grip, easy to hold in the wet and cold

-simple UI--preferably two modes (twist one way for high, the other way for low)

-this will basically be an outdoors light for camping/hiking/nature walks.

So I do think that the TK20 will be "best", but I just wanted to see what you guys thought.

Good review, thank you!

TK20 is - or actually at least was (btw. look at the date of the review linked in OP) - a good, sturdy workhorse in 2AA format. I still use it a lot outdoors. Someone else may be able to shed some light on the current upgraded (?) versions, availability etc.

That klaruse p2a gets a lot of love ,u may want to look at that one

I'm glad to share it with people, but I should note that it's not my review. I hope I didn't come across as though I were presenting it like that.

Yeah, I know that the TK20 is somewhat outdated in terms of emitter and all of that. One thing that is neat about the XP-E is that the throwy nature might suit my needs best, so that might not be a bad thing after all.

Excactly - throwy "natural" beam, simple and not blinding bright. Here's one comparision of some lights I own including also TK20

I've always wanted a TK20. Just never ran across one for the right price at the right time.

How much do you guys think would be too much for a TK20?

HKequipment said they'd be getting some more in a few weeks and said that they could do $54 shipped.

I know it's a good chunk of change more than other quality 2xAA offerings, but this light fills a certain niche that I'm not sure I'd find elsewhere. I mean, its basically the perfect light for what I want, which doesn't happen very often!

Why would you even look at a TK20 with an XR-E for $50 when you can get the shiningbeam Caveman with an XM-L for $42? Unless you like yellow that is...

The Caveman also has a 24mAh low that will last a LONG time on 2xAA

Because I want a neutral emitter, and I don't believe that the Caveman comes with that option.

Maybe because it is built like a tank, or has a simple UI, or will out throw a similar sized XM-L. I'd love to have one, but I'm with tbenedict. I never saw them at a price that agreed with me.

I saw them on sale for ~$40 less than a year ago..., but I keep hoping to find a used one to try under $30.

For $20 at Sears you can get a Dorcy with an XR-E that will outthrow them both and runs on 4xAA batteries. And it's yellow

Interesting review of that light

Why not a quark tactical? You can program any 2 modes you want and forget about it. Comes with neutral r5 or xm-l emitters for $59.

I was a diehard hotwire, but in 2007 or so the TK20 became my bridge to LED flashlights. My family owns three cars, and in each car's glove compartment is a TK20 with orange and white diffuser cones. The TK20's outdoor tint looks so natural, it has practically spoiled me for any other LED light.
