Best value-for-money USB 2A single slot charger for IMR26650

Hi. I’m currently using a XTAR VC2 Plus for my IMR18650, IMR18350 and Eneloop AAA batteries. For those it is fine. However, I’ve just ordered a couple of Efest 5000mAh IMR26650s for my (incoming) DQG Tiny 26650, which is considerably more capacity than my largest existing batteries (Samsung 30Q), making the VC2+’s 1A/slot limit somewhat of an issue. So I am looking at the possibility of a single-slot 2A charger for the new batteries.

The charger will run off my Orico CSE-5U USB power box.

From the reviews I’ve read here, the XTAR SC1 (US$5 Aliexpress, HKJ reviewed its big brother the SC2) and the Golisi I1 (US$10 Fasttech) seem the most likely candidates.

The SC1 is half the price of the I1. The I1 screen provides more information, but its screen turns off mid-charge, if you don’t double click the button. The I1 also allows you to select the current, but this would seem to be less of an issue if I’m only using it to charge IMR26650s (and possibly IMR21700s down the line).

Is there enough of a benefit to the I1 over the SC1, for my use case, to make it worth the extra money?

Is there any other charger I should be keeping in mind? Keep in mind that, to keep shipping costs (to NZ) down, I’ll almost certainly be buying from a Chinese retailer.

Fenix ARE-D1
Basen BO1

I’ll add HKJ’s review links for the mentioned chargers:

1) Fenix ARE-D1
https://lygte-info.dk/review/Review%20Charger%20Fenix%20ARE-D1%20UK.html
(comment: charges 2A is really only for 5 minutes, then drops to 1.2A charge current)
otherwise charges Li-Ion / LiFePO4 / NiMh and selectable charge current ; supports protected 21700 size

2) Basen BO-1
https://lygte-info.dk/review/Review%20Charger%20Basen%20BO-1%20UK.html
(comment: looks like a good Li-Ion charger ; but may have a slightly higher end voltage)
(only charges Li-Ion batteries, some 21700 may not fit)

3) Yonii Q1
https://lygte-info.dk/review/Review%20Charger%20Yonli%20Q1%20UK.html
(comment: charges but does not terminate charging ; supports Li-Ion & NiMh ; protected 21700 will fit)

4) Xtar SC1

  • looks like HKJ has not reviewed this charger yet…
  • this charger only fits 18650 and longer cells (protected 21700 will fit), and only charges at 2A
(I’ve tried this charger and it appears to work good as a basic charger; unfortunately don’t have ‘tech details’ — I did monitor the USB charging portion with a USB meter and it uses up to around 1.8A from the USB power.)

5) Yonii Y2

  • this is also a 2Amp only charger, I got this bundled with a flashlight package. Haven’t tested it in depth though. I would think it’s a lower-quality charger, if going by the Yonii Q1.
