Modding a TLR7A

I’m curious if anyone has done a LED swap on a Streamlight weapon light. I took mine apart and it looks like a fairly easy mod. The PCB for the LED is simply held in with a pair of T5 Torx screws and a little spring. LED looked like a 3535 size of some sort.

I actualy logged in today to ask this same question. I hate that all the viable pistol lights have a horrible tint and bad CRI. My only concern with modding it out would be two things, first they are known to be very reliable and I’d worry any mod I would do wouldn’t stand up to recoild which leads me to my second concer I assume it would void the warranty so if you managed to break it in the process you’d be SOL.

Pictures of the pcb and LED?

Please post pics if you take one apart and attempt this :+1:

It’s pretty simple to take apart. It’ll take me longer to remember how to post photos here. LOL! I used to use IMGUR but last time I was over there it seemed they changed their UI.

I picked up another Streamlight weaponlight CHEAP so soon I’ll have two to modify.

Does anyone know where the best place is to get a few Samsung LH351s these days?

.
I’ve also been meaning to pick up a miniware mhp30 to make reflow of MCPCBs super easy.

MCPCB is held in with a pair of small Torx T5 screws. It is keyed so it only fits one way for some reason.

Here’s a picture of the LED on the MCPCB. Definitely a 3.5mm square LED. There was a little bit of heatsink goo on the LED lens that I cleaned off after taking the photo.

I have a 4-40x microscope if anyone wants me to look for markings on the LED that might identify it.

Imagine this form factor with an 18350 and something putting out 1000+ lumens  thanks for the pics.

Looks like a Cree XPL to me.

Did you end up swapping in a new emitter? Any details if so? Really want to do this!

I actually sort of forgot that I was going to LED swap these. The second streamlight I got has a much nicer tint LED in it than my first one.

Maybe I’ll get a couple Nichia 519? I also have a hot air tool now so I should be able to use that to reflow them.
