Bicyling LED light

Looking for a easy and portable bicycle light set up both front and rear and I am wondering if anyone has some recent experience or recommendations? I see olight is coming out with a set now.

I’m actually currently looking for a nice setup as well, but on a tight budget these days. Looking for high CRI and 21700… ideally usb rechargeable. Taillight just needs to be bright enough to be seen and ideally usb recharge capable.

I’ve been considering the Olight (two fish style) bar mount, Sofirn SD05 with lh351d swap and wide dcfix. Also considered modding a cheap 90° headlamp (wowtac possibly) with dcfix and a red emitter.

Have you guys considered the Lumintop B01 bike light? It has a reflector that reduces glare for oncoming traffic, similar to a car’s headlights.

I bought one and am very pleased, although I haven’t had much time to use it on the bike.

There are several reviews on YouTube. Here’s one to start with:

The mount is plastic but seems sturdy enough. It is USB-micro rechargeable and runs on a 21700 but includes a 2600 mAh 18650 with a spacer.

I also discovered that it will run off of USB power without a battery installed, making for a nice backup option via power bank if your ride gets extended.

They don’t specify the tint, but mine is surprisingly pleasant and feels like 4000K to me.

It’s currently $40 on Amazon Prime with free returns if you don’t like it.

Stvzo is a way to go.

$9

then add a big power bank for a battery
usb rechargeable

I recently started using my FW3A as a bike light and it works really well. Has blinky modes and variable brightness makes is pretty convenient to ride in different environments.
For rear light there are so many options, just choose a nice brand and you’ll be fine.

My current rig is an FW3A with Carclo Elliptical and SST20s with Lee -green. OTF lm/w is not good, but beam quality is nearly perfect for most riding purposes. Wide, smooth, and when pointed properly, it’s innocuous to oncoming traffic. Looking to transplant/replicate this setup into a Convoy S21A with a P4000 driver to gain runtime and efficiency.

Tailight is a red XP-E2 in a shorty BLF A6 with a diffuser.

Another vote for the Lumintop B01 (see post #3)
It’s a nice lamp if you don’t want to blind oher people.

Is the purpose of the front light to see or to be seen?

I find that I need 4 18650s to have the combined run time (1 hour) and lumens (800 or so)

wle

Wait…

That’s only 800 lm*hrs. At 80 lm/W(system), that’s only 10Wh of energy… A 70CRI emitter with decent optics and driver will exceed that number. At 1C, the latest 3.5Ah class of 18650s hit that mark (down to 3.2V). 21700s see 50% more.

But I agree. ~40Wh is about what I consider the standard for a good cycling rig. I just really don’t like any of the products that I can afford at the moment (and that I’m aware of).

For being seen, I like a Convoy S2+ with biscotti in the longer days. For shorter days and seeing and being seen, I like my EC01, Convoy S21A (12 mode group), and Sofirn IF25A. I like bike strobe, and biscotti(-like) and Anduril make that easily accessible.

I’ve got a lot of miles on these as tail lights, and they’re great, but the mounts wear out. Trying these now, to see how long they last. I like the new ones, so far, but I don’t know how long the clip is going to last.

Don’t know about longevity yet, but I’m enjoying these mounts at the moment.

I third that recommendation. The B01 has served me extraordinarily well, with a beam that owes nothing to a motorcycle’s headlight. It covers both sides of a two lane street no sweat, with enough spill to give me awareness of the sidewalk. And that is on Medium mode. Mine is definitely 6500K, but like the Tool AA, it’s a very nice tint of cool white.

The only caveat I can point out is that if your ride is bumpy in any way (curb drops, potholes, unpaved sections, etc), you have to screw in the strap’s nut TIGHT or it’ll keep bumping out of your desired angle; that or, if your bars are tapered, it could shake itself loose. I’ll try lining the bars where the strap goes with a strip of rubber and see if it holds any better.

I was close to buying this light also, but was really hoping for a bike strobe mode like in Anduril or many other bike lights. May still pick one up, it looks pretty ideal.

Absolutely.

FW3A would be at thermal limits if you tried 800 lumens for an hour
unless riding at great speed and or weather very cold
not to mention limits of most 18650 cells for energy

i have one and love it but i like the cheap 4x18650 bike lights way better for actual riding

or the new bike lights that let you use large power banks (no need to discard when the cells go wonky, which is a flaw in the cheap lights
cells conk out and are not easily replaceable, plus usually it just one, then cell balance is off and the rest will not charge after that)
usually they have 2 or 3 LEDs and fins, to help with thermal issues

I did investigate the Olight / Magicshine from the Olight Store
That looks like a good deal for the price.

I use the Fenix BC30 on the handle bars with the Jet Beam BR10-GT on my helmet for riding trails. I went with this setup to swap out 18650’s if I need to.
The Fenix use two flat top 18650’s (not included ) and the Jet Beam (included) requires one. You will also need a separate charger for the Fenix BC 30 if you do not already have one al these factor into the overall cost, however there is a newer version of the BC30 (BC30R ? ) with built in batteries and charging.

I have used wired lights and still have a set but I prefer self contained lighting.

When I am road riding in suburbia I have been using the Lumintop C01 a small version of the mentioned Lumintop B01. I use the SOS flash mode in daylight hours. the C01 is a decent light except for the flash modes are not appropriate for bicycling.
The mount for my C01 has worn out and will no longer clamp onto my handle bar sufficiently. I will probably use the Fenix now although it is heaver.

I have many of these Flashers Banggood changes the price daily I got mine for less. I bring two or three along and swap them when the battery runs out.

I have also been through other lesser knock-off lights what I have found is the o-ring mounts suck, some bicycle lights are no more than flashlights like the Jet beam BR10-GT with some kind of mounting feature.

In my opinion the bicycle light equation is the mounting system, the beam profile / shape, the UI - modes, output (lumens) and runtime.

i used convoy s2+ in addition to a headlamp. now i use d10 or d25 in a custom holder, on a bike and another d10\25 on on my head. i have several of those heavy moded. i used to have a fenix b30, it was a pretty good light, but 2 are a lot better,

I use Vangogo bike light set.
It’s very bright, claims 500 lumen and has battery level indicator.
Mid level is enough for me most of the time even when there’s no light on the trail.
However, it is big and has weird design on the light pattern.
It throws like three squares bright center and the big reflector spills light all around.
They claim, it’s designed to see near and far all together.
It’s bulky but that makes it easy to hold as a flashlight if needed.

If you already have a nice flashlight, just get a good bike mount.

Yup. Olight Flash sale ends tonight at 11:59PM Eastern
