EC03 (old vs new firmware) thermal control...

Just sharing these. My test conditions are not too well controlled though, so pardon some inaccuracies.

I don't have a 'lumens tube', but I do have a basic lux meter, and also just using the 'ceiling bounce' app by zak.wilson.

(test room is a small room which has little outside light reaching inside)

I have 2 Astrolux EC03, one uses an older firmware (probably Anduril build date of 2018 to early 2019) - same as older SP36 Anduril / IF25A / EC01.

The newer EC03, now comes with Anduril version 2020-03-18, based on the 15-click version check.

I used a Samsung 30T charged to around 4.10v, and set the flashlight to "ramp ceiling" brightness level (single click, and then hold until it reaches the top of the ramp)

I manually configured both flashlights temperature to 25 degrees Celsius (although I think the ambient temperature in my place is closer to 30 degrees Celsius), and then added 40 clicks, meaning temperature set to 65 degrees Celsius.

Astrolux EC03 with old firmware

(comment the first "dip" at around 30-second mark is due ot me adjusting the phone/sensor and partially obstructing the light, thus the small dip)

EC03 with Anduril firmware 2020-03-18

I believe the 30T was drained to nearly empty (tested voltage after I stopped the test at around 16 minute mark, 30T voltage was around 3.50-3.55v)

comment:

looks like the new firmware has a smoother regulation than the old firmware which has some less smooth regulation.

(maybe I should use a lower temperature threshold to better see how well the regulation works?)

edit::

forgot to mention, i had a small USB fan pointed at the head of the EC03 in both cases..

I also own 2 of these, ordered 2 weeks apart.

I noticed when I do the battery or temp check, the newer one flashes twice as fast as the first one.

I figured it probably has a different firmware, also did the 15 click and the newer one responded with 2020-03-18.
But the (2 weeks)older one didn’t respond.

How do you check which firmware the older one is running?
And is it possible to update firmwares on these flashlights?

The second one had it’s temp configured way off. 21c here while the stone cold flashlight said 43c

I believe the "older Anduril" EC03 all use the same old firmware (as mentioned in another thread) as the older SP36 BLF Anduril or Astrolux EC01.

There is no proper way to find which older version Anduril firmware the flashlight is using without the 15-click version check function..

However, I made a 'features' chart, based from information on the Anduril firmware changelog in TK's website.

Assuming the Anduril flashlight does not support 15-clicks for version check, then I try to test the feature.
-first check if it has factory reset (which would indicate Anduril 2019-06-27), if not,
-then for "manual memory" (ie. do 5H while On, see if it will have "manual" memory mode or still have the automatic memory; if this feature is not present, then
-go to 4-click lockout mode, check if it has the 2-level lockout brightness; if it doesn't
-check the 7-clicks from Off and set to blinking/breathing (assuming it has a side-button/aux-LED), if it's a "breathing" (heartbeat blinking pattern) rather than plain blinking pattern (which would be even older Anduril version)

Thanks, clear.
That’s 2018-12-14 for the first, and the latest firmware for the one ordered 2 weeks later :disappointed:

On a side note, this is a great light and terribly underrated.

I ain’t clicking on that crap.
