[Review] Magicshine MOH 35
Magicshine MOH 35

3 in 1 review. At the end there will be a summary for those who like only particulars, in each topic I will bold the key sentences for those who read a little more, and a long waffling for everyone else. Enjoy!

I got a test flashlight from Magicshine. Short introduction: I don't like headlamps with a battery in the back. I have never had such one, because I thought it was uncomfortable, big, etc. If you think likewise, and at the end of the review it will turn out that I liked such flashlights, it means that you can take it too.

Appearance, parameters

Everything is done very well. The flashlight looks elegant, solid and professional.

The head itself is small and lightweight, and can accommodate 3 different diodes

It can be tilted max to such a level, which is completely sufficient for me, and the mechanism itself (although I am not a supporter of such a solution in the form of a serrated hinge for tilting the headlamp) works with clear resistance and there is no chance of accidental change of the light angle. You can also see fins that help to dissipate heat.

The button on the top works with a clear but well balanced resistance, the cable is soft enough and the headlamp tilt regulation works perfectly. So far, all is well.

The power supply located on the back is clip-on, so it can be removed and used as a power bank (as long as you have a USB cable type C on the USB in your phone).

The plug, when inserted, sits firmly.

UI, runtime and charging

UI
UI is intuitive and simple: Hold to turn on and off, click to change mode. Additionally, you can double-click between 3 LEDs, i.e. strongest cold white (4 modes), weak neutral (3 modes) and red (2 modes + SOS).

Runtime
Declared by the producer on his battery 4000mAh runtimes are:
Cold tint: (30lm - 61h), (100lm - 13h 40min), (400lm - 8h 27min), (1000lm - 2h 6min)
Neutral tint: (5lm - 240h), (50lm - 41h), (100lm - 19h)
Red tint: (5lm - 230h), (100lm - 10h)

The heat dissipation in Turbo mode is shown below:
Obrazek
2min - 52°C
5min - 60°C
10min - 59°C
Brightness in 10 minutes - 470lm

Charging
Built-in charger with USB type C connector and cable included. The charging is signalled by a flashing green diode, which lights up steady after charging.

There is also a possibility to use the battery as a power bank, but you need to have a cable with a C-type USB input for the charger, unfortunately it is not included in the kit or at my house.

PWM

I have not observed on any diode at the lowest brightness.

Waterproofness

Declared IPX6, so the flashlight is not immersion resistant, but should be 100% resistant to any form of rain.

Light pattern, tint

Max brightness: 1042lm white cold; 96lm white warm; 75lm red.

As you can see, the cold white tint is blurred, but still closer to focus. Warm white tint, on the other hand, shines horizontally due to the collimator (I know, I showed it as if it was shining vertically...I didn't thought about it) - something like bicycle light, although maximum brightness ~ 100lm precludes using it this way. The red one is similarly focused as the cold white one.

Beamshots

ISO200, t2s, f/3.5 sunlight white balance.

Actually, the only thing I don't like about this is the SOS mode - there could be a beacon instead. But besides that I am impressed. Cold white tint is focused, shines far away and warm white tint is scattered and better for a short distance. It also shines horizontally, although I don't know what idea is behind it. I would rather have a round beam.

Usage and my experiences

Walking in the forest. Dark. Because it was night. So it is known it could have been dark. Unless it is summer. Then it's dark later. But it is not summer, it is autumn. It was cold in my head. I should start wearing a hat. Meanwhile, instead of a hat, I had this headlamp on my head. It did not work as a hat. But this is not what I expected from it. It worked well as a source of light, and I must say that I am impressed with how well it worked. Maybe some people know that I don't like strong light when walking in the forest, so most of the way I walked with 96lm warm tint. It turned out to be very good for walking, more pleasant than cold one. But I used it as well, when I turned on the Turbo. I felt satisfaction - so much light was a real splendor. The concentration of this cold light was, in my opinion great - a good throw, with the simultaneous illumination of the sides.

Summary

Magicshine MOH 35 is a proposal for those who would like to have strong white light, weaker neutral and 2 red modes. If you are one of these people and you do not mind the battery 21700 at the back of your head, then this is the headlamp for you.

Pros:
+ Cold, warm and red tint
+ The battery can be used as a power bank

Cons:
- Battery cannot be replaced, cell 21700 is not replaceable

About host - threads, knurling o-rings and so on
Rating: 8/10

About light - UI, tint and so on
Rating: 9/10

1 - very bad flashlight hurts to look at, terrible quality, not worth any (even very low) price
5 - average flashlight, at a reasonable price - for the average person "great". Or better flashlight, but overpriced
10 - flashlight meets all my expectations in a given category (e.g EDC, headlamp, thrower), it's durable and neatly made, perfect light tint, worth its (even slightly inflated) price - just pure perfect, so I doubt any light can get a 10 from me

I hope you enjoyed!
