Hi, I’m looking for a fairly cheap (<£35) torch for outdoor use with a fairly wide beam but able to go out to say 80-100m, it doesn’t need to be pocket sized as it’ll be in the car glovebox most of the time or otherwise in use. Having started at the 1lumen site and there to here I’m now even more confused and seem to be going round in circles. I think I’ve got a short list of:
I can help to shorten it a bit more: push button, some of these lights have it on the tail, some have a side switch. Personally I found side switch uncomfortable, can’t turn on the flashlight from any position - have to locate the pushbutton first. Same with a secondary side button for mode change. Also, different way to hold the light.
Personally I would advice C8+ SST40 for the beginning.
Depends on how much light you want to put out. Any of those will throw 80-100m easy, but you’ll have different amounts of throw and flood. The Convoy M3 will give tons of light (3000 lumens) with moderate floods and throw. Ft03 is great for throw. Sc31 and C8+ are more throw than flood, but are a good balance of both. For your needs, I say the C8F or EC01. It’s lots of light but good flood/throw balance and physically smaller.
