C8 style host-- Ideas for driver / dropin ?

Ideas for driver / dropin for C8 style host?

I purchased this light before I discovered the BLF. A UniqueFire T6 XM-L with a now dead XM-L-- it fried itself. http://www.dealextreme.com/p/uniquefire-t6-xm-lt6-3-mode-750-lumen-white-led-flashlight-with-strap-1-18650-55242 It looks identical to the Trustfire C8, but grey.

I was hoping for some suggestions on what I could do with it. The light ran ridiculously hot, so I would also like to replace the driver with something more tame. I have other good lights but I hate to let this one sit impotent--a constant reminder of a poor purchase. Should I just consider it a loss?

Could I put an R2 in it with an aspherical Lens (one of these http://www.dealextreme.com/p/44mm-secondary-optics-glass-5-pack-4558 ) ?

Any other ideas / suggestions?

I have only seen a couple of options so far.

if you want a complete drop-in. I think it's a CREE XR-E.
Manafont doesn't provide very much info / description.
If you want to build your own, this is the only pill that I have seen, I am not sure wether the plastic protective shield comes with it though.
http://www.lck-led.com/p915/Copper-Pill-for-C8-Flashlight,-DIY/product_info.html?osCsid=9qicna5g49tumfd0n13ufojuk3 it's really brass, (copper & zinc).
Not much to go on, but please post what you find. I'd like to build a couple of drop-ins for a C8 myself.
Good luck!

This is an empty pill for C2 and C8 lights I got lately : http://www.dinodirect.com/flashlight-accessory-copper-circuit.html

I added a 8x7135 5 Mode driver I got from Kaidomain and a T6 XML. This made a very nice throwy XML light out of my XR-E C8.

You can buy this, http://www.intl-outdoor.com/c8-module-xml-t6-led-amc17358-driver-p-261.html

That solves the soldering part. Or if you know how to solder, you can simply buy a Nanjg 105C driver (8x7135). That is if you are sure the LED is not burned.

However I do not know how tame would a Nanjg 105C (8x7135) be compared to your original driver since that one is supposed to be 2.8A too. The screw-ins from Manafont should be tame considering the 1A current.

Thanks for the help guys. That gives me some options.

I might even try building the drop-in myself. At this point I’m not sure if I want to use an XR-E or XM-L. If I choose to go with an XR-E is there a recommended driver, or should I just get the complete drop-in parkerdude suggests?

The problem with C8s is that not all C8 module/pill is the same. I bought several C8 from Ultrafire to Trustfire and somewhat their pills is not interchangeable.

I would recommend below driver for XRE/XPG

http://www.intl-outdoor.com/amc71354-5mode-circuit-board-nanjg-101aka1-p-254.html

And below for XML

That’s good to know,

Thanks

The empty pill I had from DD was different then the ones in my C2 DIY body from DX and the C8 Q5 I got from DD. Luckily their threads matched well and I now can interchange pills between my C2s and C8. The pill from DD looks like the one sold on intl- outdoor. The best part of this empty pill is that it accepts 20mm stars perfectly.

I got two different C8´s from DD whereas Kaidomain delivered two similar with "original" interior setup.

Might recommend Kaidomain on these, both of them also do the draw up to 3A as DD´s stuff took around 1,8-2A...

DD´s Romisen T601 might change the game, though.

Thanks for the recommendations guys.

Unfortunately I’ve decided to scrap the light (well actually fit it with a red led and new driver)

It didn’t seem worth the time/expense for repair when the seemingly identical light, but with far better finish and pill (heatsinking and driver) is already available, as noted in the forums:
