Paracord?

This isn’t exactly off-topic I suppose but it probably belongs here anyway
Paracord looks to me like what is called in climbing (and sold in R.E.I) at 6 mil accessory cord I think. Is that correct.
As used by flashaholics what is the deal? I can’t tell from the few pictures that I’ve seen. Is it used (and woven) to make a lanyard where you hand can go through it or is it just a braided length of cord (as sometimes seems to be the case in some of the pictures).
I’m not sure what’s the point or exactly how it’s being used.
I’ve wondered about this before but never got around to asking.

its good stuff , make a wrist strap , makes it easy to pull knife or FL , makes your item easy to find. there are some GITD ones. i wrapped the body of a flashlight with it to avoid getting frost bite : ) .

i would get some and micro para cord is good for the smaller holes.

Nice work! Is this mainly for display?
I can appreciate the knot tying and weaving skill and with the hardware you’ve added it looks nice.
Looking at some of the pictures the paracord looks bigger and heavier than the knife or flashlight. If you have a light in your pocket then the paracord is hanging out of your pocket?
It, in some cases looks like a weapon as well (nunchaku-like).
As an artwork and handicraft it is appealing. Is it more for display or do you actually use them.
I saw in one of those pictures (not yours I don’t believe) a Maglite with a large paracord braid. How would that be used/carried?
Thanks.

You can use a length of paracord as a fob , to make it easier to get the light out of a holster or pocket and possibly add some length to a small light , or as a tether , so you don't drop your light or to hang it . A brightly colored lanyard helps to locate your light . Wrapping the body of your light aids in grip and insulates it in cold weather .

And paracord can add some bling .

As jack says, either used to find a torch/knife etc or used to stop said torch/knife being dropped or lost.

But really it just an excuse for us to show off our knot work.Laughing

You can make amny other items with paracord, like~: dog leads/leash, matts, neck lanyards, keyfobs, bracelets.

Good to see you .

I can’t tell you how many times I have caught a falling light by the paracord lanyard I had attached. It could save that high dollar light from that one drop that wrecks it. Plus it looks good if you make a nice one.

^ Sometimes just a small scratch on the body means (mentally...) that the light is totally wrecked...

good to see you too Jack. How's the paracord going? made anything new?
