Need advise on using 2 x NCR18650A unprotected in series (i think)?

Hello everyone, im new here. Very nice forum you have here. (I posted this same message in another area but I think it put it in the wrong place - im sorry about that)

Im new to all this - and I have ordered 4 x NCR1850A batteries. I was planning on using them in a dereelight dbs-t aspheric with the 1.5a EZ900 pill - but now I have some questions/concerns.(using 2 x panasonic unprotected 18650's together)

Basically I ordered these batteries because I had read they were very good batteries.(same reason I ordered the torch)

Problem is, the more reading I do, the more worried I get that I cannot use 2 x NCR18650A unprotected cells together in my new Dereelight.

I must have read dozens of pages on the subject already but cant really find a solid answer. I have learnt that over charging and over discharding are the main safety concerns with unprotected cells. I have also learnt that panasonic cells are very safe/reliable even if unprotected.

So my basic question is, can I use two of these together in my new dereelight?(i think the term is in "series"?) Assuming I measure voltage while charging etc, and dont let them get too low on power? Almost eveything i have read suggests almost all problems/fires etc happen while charging..so i cant really see the problem.

Comments?

Thanks very much

As long as the cells are reasonably well matched and you monitor the voltage to not let them get excessively discharged, you shouldn't have any trouble. 1.5A at 2x cell voltage is a light load, I would think it's safe. I use 3x unprotected 18650 cells in my TR-1200 and have never had any issues. But I pull them frequently to keep them topped off before the voltage drops. I would make sure I marked the cells to make sure they only got used in pairs so they both had the same number of charge/discharge cycles and usage patterns...

Panasonic, Samsung and Sanyo seem to have the best cells. They are used in battery packs, laptops, industrial applications, etc. I was interested in all of them and when i learned that XTAR uses Sanyo cells in some of its protected cells, i bought the XTAR.

many flashlight connoisseurs use these exact XTAR products. Not the best performing (compared the the top of the pops like Samsung or Panasonic) but among the top3.

none of my lights are multi-cell. i appreciate my single-cell lights.

Thanks for the replies guys, ill use them and be careful!

Now I play the waiting game, I should have my new toy in the next few days!
