Im looking for some little sucker as well, be it AA or AAA flashlight, it must be on the cheap, so far E01 seems like best one can find, especially if one lives outside USA.
A while back, we kicked around a little offering by RayOvac at Walmart for $3.88. It's a AAA battery vampire for sure. I tested it. Cheap and still going strong. I saw 2 of em at WallyWorld today AAMOF.
This is the one. However i strongly suggest that at least the led is replaced with a less cold and more efficient one. I used an osram (overkill led for such measly driver) and modded it slightly.
I would suggest just switching the led with a 5mm strawhat one with the best one you can find. Liek these perhaps:
Reflector is plastic and so is the lens. 18mm is the lens diameter fro getting glass ones. 20-19mm orings fits behind the lens (stock form no front o-ring). The body is okayish and is missing the pocket clip althrough has holes for it already present. o.O
Befe you go that route it is best you know that joule thiefs works decently bright when the battery is full. When it goes out the current to the led goes very low which relates to dim light. At 1 lumen lasts quite some days probably.
I will be good with fully charged Eneloop/new AA running down to 50% and 30% respectively, I dont have interest regarding moonlight mode right now, I would like to see how well it compares with really usable light output to E01 and its 10h 10lm output :)!
If you could shed some lumens on that one it would be great!
There was a comment from DON https://budgetlightforum.com/t/-/5645#comment-110059 about a right angle light on that thread. about how it ran on clinically dead batteries. I just ordered one of those today.
To be honest I think you should try out the This light from budgeteer and see what its like as its only 3.98 usd. After all the light output may be fine without any modifications if its for a vampire
