It may not make you smarter ...in fact it will probably help you realize how smart you ain't.

it's your move .

lasker's how to play chess has been on my shelf for over a decade w/ a bookmark about 10 pages in

The first one was easy...lol, so was the 2nd one

Made it through all 8 of them, although I don't agree on some of the solutions. Then again, it's been a long time since I've played so what do I know :)

I would rather play a nice game of Pool.

I get stressed out over checkers.

I'm a Backgammon man myself .

Ya, and it only gets more stressful once your preteen children can regularly beat you. Seriously though, I love to play chess and can still triumph over my younglings... for the moment anyway. I'm sure my days are numbered. Those kids circle me like vultures!

I used to play a lot in Alaska since we spent a lot of time indoors during the winter but I haven't played since I moved here to Hawaii.

Never played and because my attention span is so limited I don't think I want to learn at this point!

Maybe I'm just afraid to play strategy games because it will put my intellect on display (or lack thereof).

In 1981 my flatmate and I had an argument about whether backgammon was down to luck or skill.

By late 1982 our scores were 3989 to 3981 in my favour. (We didn't use the doubling cube)

We never did settle that argument.

Skill was probably pretty much equal by then...

We used to put our respective girlfriends to bed (Neither of us could stand the other's girlfriend) then play backgammon all night.

Which did nothing for either of our academic careers.

Problem with backgammon is it looks simple and there is an element of luck involved but once you learn to change the odds by doing some math on where to place your men then it stops being chance and starts being skill.

here's a quick game of chess in the park

Truer words never spoken. I love Chess. I'm "game" (pardon the pun).
