This year's newcommer - Cree XB-D

We've had some little info here and there as well as couple of posts on BLF, but could we dream a bit about this interesting LED and give some speculation or hard info regarding possible use in flashlights and perhaps some information regarding which manufacturers could be planning on using this in their flashlight builds?
How about its efficiency compared to current LED offerings, competition?
Its strong and weak sides, what kind of LED it is, good for flood only or capable of throwing as well?
Im still n00b when it comes to LED categories, only know that XML is the latest thing everyones raving about and mods to and that XP-E is somewhat good for throw.

So, any speculations from LED gurus here :D?

XB-D is:

- small=good for tiny lights

- efficiency similar to XP-E

- 1A max current (not much)

- awful tint shifting!

XB-D is cheap but not very good for flashlights.

Meh and there I was expecting to see miracle 100+lumen flashlights that could run ~5 on max with one XB-D on 2000mah AA :D!

And all that on the cheap!

I don’t think we know the answer to that question in terms of throw.
I don’t see any measure on their datasheet of the actual surface area of the emitter. The number that they give is for the “footprint” of the overall unit but not the surface area.
Therefore we don’t know if it’s smaller than the .9mm of the ez900 die for the XR-E. If it’s smaller with output that is greater it will throw further.
This emitter doesn’t appear to be of interest for those looking for maximum lumen output.

actually, that's exactly what I'm hoping it will be good for

well...maximum lumens/$

ie, stuff 20 of these in one light for < $40....

Any news regarding this and the other one :D?

A kind of super-shower head, that would be cool

once the price comes down south of xp-e i'm definitely going to try it...
