I'm quite interested in what you did to replace the led with a R5. Did you have to change the controller board or was it just a straight swap of the led

The scratches on the Head were from opening the light 
But it should be possible to open it without damage. Also you have to freeze it and heat it and freeze it and so on...
I swapped the Led and the reflector the controller board is still the same and works great.
