FDR Drive NB underpasses now illuminated by LED

Noticed last night on the drive home from NYC that sections of the NB underpasses (right before 96th street exit) are now illuminated by LED. This must've been very recent update as I take the FDR frequently and noticed this just yesterday (sorry for crappy pic, this was on iPhone in moving car shot by passenger):

Long overdue. I live just south of that section of the FDR (71st St is my exit) and always wondered why they never updated he lighting in there. Always dark even when the old lights all worked. I have noticed in other sections of the city as well they seem to be updating the lighting systems. The underpass on Bruckner Blvd coming from the Willis Ave. bridge seems to have workers on lifts doing something to the lights. Seems like some cities and towns are late to upgrade to more efficient energy.

EDIT: We also got our pedestrian walkway over the FDR back recently :)

Indeed! That's the reason I noticed as it was actually quite bright and very well illuminated now! Seemed to be an array of power LED's but obviously I couldn't make it out as I was driving.

We just had a major freeway renovated here in Detroit, and they installed 250 LED lighting poles along about 10 miles of roadway! Here's a short newsclip which shows the lighting.
