SAiK SA-305 (parallel 3xAA) arrived from LT (very, very picture heavy)

The SAiK SA-305 from LT arrived ...man that throw has punch ... brighter than my c78 in throw mode... a lot brighter than the Skyray S-R5 in the very small hotspot. This is my first light with a larger reflector. Beam quality could be better... very visible CREE-Rings (or from the plastic reflector). Reflector and lens are plastic and not as described on the LT product page. Battery carrier quality is good. Mode memory with next-mode-problem, but there seems to be a trigger time, after that it has normal memory. Aluminum housing has a nice build quality with 2 fitting O-rings, but it isn't waterproof since there is a threaded hole for a camera tripod, it can tailstand. The cut-out for the lens is ~40.9 mm. The driver and the emitter base are both 20 mm and the whole pill can be unscrewed by hand. 16mm switch tailcap. Battery carrier rattles, if light is shaken (not stirred ;-) ). I thought about modding it with a collimator lens and/or with a warm white XP-G Q5 driven hard, but I have trouble unscrewing the bezel part that holds the reflector (might be glued) and the beam quality and mode memory does not justify an XP-G Q5. A SB 1400 mA driver (17mm) would not fit well, because the original driver is 20mm. Despite all that drawbacks, I would buy it again, just because of that punchy throw on standard batteries and that nice housing with black satin finish anodization. Threads are nice and came pre-lubed. It's surprisingly ergonomic to hold this light, even when it is on the large side and will never reach edc status. I paid 13.29 $ = 9.84 € for the light with a coupon. ("FLASHLIGHT")

Update with even more pictures....

SkYRAY 1JC8, SAiK SA-305 , MAG 3D

Beamshot SAiK vs Skyray (photographed with an angle)

Skyray 1JC8 (flamin' Trustfire 18650) , SAiK SA-305 high (3xEneloops), SAiK SA-305 low

(and some negative currents just for the symmetry )

Great! Btw, that solarforce l2 you have on your first photo... it is a 3x 18650 setup? Seems way too long for just 2x 18650 to me.

Yes it's a 3x18650 setup ... but slightly modified, hence the name Solarfarce Extreme.

A love for handy pipe bombs? Or you like extra runtime?

A pipe bomb ? On Eneloops? Enlighten me....

Reflector size? Do you have another thrower for beamshot comparison? It looks similar in size (a bit larger) and seems should be similar in throw to standard 40mm cree throwers.

Tripod is nice, though, especially when pair with mini-gorillapod.

Reflector :40 mm wide (inner diameter) and ~31.5 mm deep (outer bottom of reflector to inside of the lens ). I don't own any other specialized throwers, the best throwing capabilities I have here are C78 in throw mode and the Skyray S-R5 (smooth reflector), but I guess that is no fair competition. I hope to compare it to a SKY RAY 1JC8 soon. That SA-305 is really bright in that small concentrated hotspot, hurts my eyes just looking at a wall bounce even at larger distances (3-4 m), never had that before. But maybe I'm too easy to impress, since this is my first real thrower.

That's a lot different from what I'm used to being little, fat & stubby but still feels good in the hand like you said. The more I look at it the nicer it gets plus the price isn’t too bad either.

The body has about the same diameter as a 3D Mag but the head is smaller. Those grooves in the body fit right where your index and your little finger is... providing more ergonomics and additional grip... together with that satin anodization... I like it. The biggest flaws are the next-mode-problem (annoying) and the beam quality on white walls (ugliest beam profile I own). I will do beamshots later.

that's what she said...

I see you have managed to get the bend out of the middle of the Solarfarce. Was that difficult? :P

Stop describing me!

:)

I had to make a new one, the old one was bent too hard.... now I know why titanium lights exist. ;-)

If you can bend titanium lights, you have a job for the rest of your life as a circus strongman!

:)

Then send me 10 of them and I start training... I need 1AAA,1AA,2AA,1x18650,2x18650 etc........

You guys are waaaaaaay too funny! :D

You seriously need new prescription glasses, your fonts are getting bigger and bigger...

LOL I know I do.

Moviles made some nice pics of the pill construction:
...and he modded it with a 50 mm lens from DX....
I hope he doesn't mind me posting his pics here...

I take it the saik throws further than the skyray with smaller hotspot?
