A huge thanks to another extremely thoughtful, kind, generous BLF member. This time the suspect is Old-Lumens, who sent me a really nice knife:
The blade is impeccably sharp, no doubt due to a little additional TLC by Old-Lumens. And the knife has a nice sturdy locking mechanism, which I highly value in a good knife. I'm actually not very familiar with the different locking mechanisms, maybe Old-Lumen would be so kind as to tell us what type this is.
Once again, I am really touched that somebody would take the time (and expense) to send me something by mail, and I hope Old-Lumens realizes how much he made my day when I received it. ;) Thanks very, very much!
The knife is a lockback. When you press on the release at the top rear of the handle, a locking lug is raised up out of a slot in the rear of the blade.
I also have one from Old-Lumens. He did a great job on the burl wood handles.
I have over 200 knives and this is one of my current favorites.
The knife blank itself (without handles/scales), was purchased on ebay. When there is leftover stock from some manufacturers, they sell the stock at wholesale. Then buyers, in turn, sell them on places like ebay. The knife is Italian made and was purchased by several companies, to be used with their own styles/logos. Wrangler and David Yellowhorse were two that did use the knife blank to make their own brands with it.
The scales/handles are formed by files, epoxied on and final fitting is with sandpaper. The natural defects in the burl wood are filled with Turquoise. The finish is epoxy with a final coat of enamel.
I did sharpen it a little, just a few quick strokes off my sharpening block & a few strokes over the leather to smooth the edge.
