I was sent a complete Xeccon D2X diving flashlight kit for review a few months ago.

I havent reviewed it yet because Ive had a great deal of problems with my new digital camera over the past 2 months. It was finally just replaced. Now that Im ready to complete the review, a quick look through this forum and CPF shows that the lying representatives from Xeccon have been banned with dozens of negative comments about how their company ripped off the innovative flashlight designs of Javier Lopez. Even Xeccon's web site posted a CPF link that was said to clarify the misunderstanding that their products were legitimate. Clicking that CPF link actually showed how Xeccon was lying about their products, and subsequently became banned from that forum!! A google search will turn up even more threads that uncover their lies with the same outcome.

Its really ashamed, because the light itself is actually everything it was promised to be. The XML LED is driven hard and throws decently through a deep reflector (given the medium diameter). The build quality and finish is to Fenix/Olight flagship standard and reflects a rather unlimited effort in producing a superior quality aluminum dive light. Ive been using it heavily the past two months to see if it would fail and it has only continued to impress me and others that have handeled it. My review will reflect its strengths & weaknesses and it is unbiased, but I will not finish it out and post it here unless the majority of you vote for me to do so.

So what see ye? Yay or nay? Post the review or delete it?

Thanks all for reading.

"Yes, you should post the review so I can contemplate a well executed and unique hig-end flashlight design." In this Javier design, right?

I would discourage anything that would send these lying thieves any business.

Had you purchased the light, it would be a different story IMO.

Yes, it is Javier's painstaking design, but the light was built without his consent and he has not profited from it. If someone can point us to information otherwise that proves recent legitimate negotiations between the two, this would be a great time to post. My feelings are that this light is incredible for its intent and purpose, however I would never purchase anything from Xeccon, given their continued public history of deceit and lies.

More comments and votes are needed from others.

I would post the review, but with clear disclaimers at the beginning and end of the review, making it clear to any reader what the situation is. Then they can make their own mind up..

It's very conscientious of you to post the poll, whatever the outcome. Well done.

Lots of reads but very few votes. Please cast your vote if you havent done so already.

Yep

I'd say given the history behind the light has been disclaimed, post it (my vote) and for those voting against it (but are in the market for one), rather than doing it here, speak with your wallets and purchase the original. But those who are not hung up by the controversy can do the opposite.

But one thing I'm curious though, for those voting "No", would you also be adverse against purchasing other clones (e.g. Skyray king vs. TM11 - i know they're not exact copies like Xeccon/Javier situation but close enough)? This is really more for my own curiosity. One of the reasons I've been against purchasing one is for this very reason.

To be mindful not to derail FlashPilot's OP, you can make it specifically about Xeccon/Javier's light.

EDIT: OK, nm, so if I read correctly, Javier never made the light... I'd still say go ahead and post it since it can be a testimony to Javier's design. However, in terms of voting w/your wallet then nay to purchasing one but rather see what else Javier might have to offer that is similar.

Cheers,
Tim

The person who was wronged has personally posted here about being ripped off. This is not an 'interpretation' but fruit of deceptive business practices.

Xeccon sent the OP a light as advertising - posting the review would be tacit approval of the company's business practices. They have been caught in a lie, admitted to using stolen designs, and spammed our forums. Should a free light mitigate their past transgressions ?

Had the OP purchased the light and loved it, this would be a different discussion.

I would rather see a review of the DX $36 version.

Flash - You should post the review.

I'm torn and I want very much to read your review and I am also extremely interested in this remarkable design. I've followed this story for some time and I even got a small flurry of e-mails following some pointed comments I made in a thread. (can't remember if it was here or CPF)

The bottom line is this; Mr. Lopez created what I think is a game changing dive light and that is no small thing. If myself or somebody else we all know on this board for example, conceived, designed and actually built a great light . . . . and then we all discovered somebody copied it and brought it to market with hardly a tip of the hat to the original creator?

Why do I think you should post the review? If I were reviewing this light, I would carefully edify Javier, making certain that appropriate credit was acknowledged. The flashlight nuts that read your reviews will all know from whence the genius came and that can be nothing but a good thing. As far as buying this light from Xeccon?

Foy's review would contain no recommendation for purchase. Quite the contrary.

This has happened with other flashlight designs. The Gatlight comes to mind and when it first happened, I wondered why everybody on CPF was so up-in-arms. Now, I understand.

another Yep

Post the review!

Post the review if and only if you put links (and maybe a summary) of the sordid backstory.

A third “Yep”.

This!

Not in favor. I don't want to see the thieves have any chance of profiting from this. I spent a fair amount of time reading through the whole affair and I think it's a shame what happened. I would love to hear what Javier thinks.

And thanks for asking - it was the right thing to do.

It's funny this comes up... I was looking at the Xeccon website and saw an address for a "U.S.A. customer service center." Google-mapped it and it comes back to a residential condo at the address.

Rich

I say no. These people are known thieves. If you post a review, good or bad, you are condoning and promoting their actions. That is not a gray area, it's pretty plain to see.

As far as more people saying yes post it, that (majority) shows the true state of the world doesn't it? We have become used to cheap knock offs, pirating songs, movies, software, etc. So, someone stealing someone elses design doesn't have as much weight as it used to, it's more "okay" than it used to be.

but thanks for at least asking before doing the review.
