there are youtube videos of it being tested on targets and people. I think it is for people that have NO other option - in other words, if it is illegal, you might as well use something better that's illegal.
several years after they expired I tested them both. I'm pretty sure they'd lost a fair amount of pressure - don't keep this stuff after expiration. It was still pretty impressive and a direct, aggravated hit would probably kill a person if they didn't get medical attention. Imagine a can of a spray paint that sprays throws 15 to 20 feet and empties in 3 seconds.
watch the wind w/ any pepper spray or you'll disable yourself - there was no wind and was still quite bothered by the bear spray.
Exactly what I was going to say I have tried a bunch of different pepper spray my girl carries the cute pink mace brand with the velcro handle in her purse.
The most effective spray to stop an assailant is commercial wasp and hornet killer. I keep a can in both vehicles and one in the kitchen by the front door, it is really inexpensive, it is legal everywhere,it holds 18 ounces compared to the one ounce or less mace, it has a range of over 20 feet, when you hit someone with it it does not wash out they have to got the emergency room to get an antivenom put in there eyes to restore vision. So why break the law when there is a far superior legal spray that nobody will think twice about when they see it kicking around.
well, there's one reason - it can (and probably will) do permanent damage, so while it is legal to possess, you might end up w/ a nasty felony charge if you use it...
but if you need it, and don't have it...and you are still around to tell the story, i bet you'll say you wish you hadn't listened to that reasoning...
20+ years ago, I used to have to ride my bike past a rural house that had 3 (loose) dobermans. I would get going as fast as I could before I got close and the house sat back far enough that they wouldn't catch me - but it was too close for comfort.
One day I put clorox in a squirt gun. They never chased me again.
because you can't be charged w/ a crime for possessing it, particularly in your home or car (if its on your person they'll find some other reason to detain you)
wait....are you saying that it is illegal to possess pepper spray, and therefore you should carry wasp spray instead? I wouldn't want to risk being sued by the person for damages to their nervous system for using animal poison on them.
Using wasp spray is a very dumb idea, especially in the US where pepper spray is legal in all 50 states and if used will not cause any permanent damage and open you up to felony criminal charges and civil proceedings.
I prefer the pepper spray that's packed into a 45 caliber cartridge with a 45 caliber projectile that tries to keep it pressurized. Kimber makes my favorite holster for said pepper spray and Uncle Mikes makes my favorite holster for said Kimber.
While it wouldn't be my first choice, I'd use wasp spray in a pinch. If some sob needed to be sprayed, I wouldn't care if he got treated like a bug. I'd hate to get sprayed by it. And just because other deterrents are legal, that doesn't mean you wouldn't get sued by a perp if he had the chance.
