No interest? Small Sun ZY-A601

As per topic, no one ever try this flashlight? It seems like this flashlight has a big aspheric lens, and IMO even bigger than the C10, but after doing some searching I still couldn't find any post related to the A601.

Is it because of the quality problem of this light, or the battery configuration not attracting?

The link to this light is here, http://www.manafont.com/product_info.php/small-sun-zya601-floodtothrow-zooming-cree-q5-led-mode-flashlight-2xd-p-7527 and there are 3xD and 4xD cells version.

Any thoughts?

It’s probably due to the battery choice and size of the light.

actually, i find it attractive. it is a lot like the tractor supply 3xd zoomie - but probably better 'quality'.

I've thought of buying one, since tractor supply is out of the 3xD, but I'm hoping they sell it again this fall because it has a 50mm lens.

3xD tenergy 10A nimh are great for driving an xm-l pretty hard for a long time...

I see. So what do you think about the lens diameter of the Manafont version?

Can you please show the link of the tractor supply version?

tough to say, but I think its less than 50 - maybe 45? Probably the same lens as the small sun c10 zoomie, or maybe a little bigger?

unfortunately tractor supply doesn't sell the 3xd in store anymore (they clearanced at $15, and $10 in some places)

they never sold it online

here's my thread https://budgetlightforum.com/t/-/5372

when I finish modding my second one I'll post some beamshots. w/ xm-l at 2.8A it is pretty impressive at full zoom. this next one will be driven harder ;)

With a similar concept, you got the pailide, I bought the 4AA version which I am using with 26650 and the pill is awsome, it has a really big amount of aluminium, and overall a nice finish, and the lens concentrates better than most of the known aspherics.

I bought it in Taobao, I am afraid I did not find it anywhere else on that battery version.

Nice. So what is the diameter of the lens in your Pailide version? Can I have the link? Thanks.

I will check later today, I am not at home at the moment, and do not remember the dimensions.

I will check also about the link to taobao, I bought it about a year ago, I am not sure if still exists.

Here are some pics of it, as you can see the pill is a really thick piece of aluminium, it could handle any known led with ease.

The led mounted right now on mine is an Osram oslon SSL 80 I left to test it.

The push buttom rubber is not the original, I replaced it.

It is still available on its 4 AA version at taobao:

http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=10475828740

http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=9893405365

that's a gem! do you know what do 80 and 118 work out to in USD? what's the difference...shipping? (sorry, i should use chrome to browse)

One Yuan is 0.158 USD, you have to add the EMS internal shipping, plus the agent you get it with benefit, plus shipping to USA.

There are many taobao agents right now, check about it, the one I used was from Spain, so that one will not help you much.

I ordered more things when I purchased it, but I think the total price was around 20USD.

I forgot to show the 3D version at manafont:

http://www.manafont.com/product_info.php/pailide-k1053d-floodtothrow-cree-led-mode-sideway-switch-flashlight-3xd-p-7997

time to reassess my 'list' :) thanks

The only con in general, is its lenght, it is a bit big for 4AA, being 200mm long, it is due to there is a compartment for the switch that is a bit long for what it is.

good space for custom heatsink ;)

That is very informative yavi, thanks for that!

So from your picture the lens diameter is about 45mm and the effective diameter is around 34mm, right? I think the lens is already larger than the SmallSun C10.

dthrckt, any thought of modding it?

probably same as yavi, switch boot.

if the driver's ok, i'd probably leave it be - see the size of that pill!!!

most guys would like xre but I'd go xm-l...

Yeah that is what I am thinking too, not sure what is the driver diameter, guess it is a "conventional" type -.-

I think the lens is big enough for a XM-L to have decent throw. Unlike most XM-L zoomies that we can see in some dealing websites recently, they have very small lens diameter.

I used it with XM-L too, and it throws roughly as good as yezl T9, so yes it does it better than the majority with smaller lenses.

The driver is the "standard" 17mm, I am not using it as I use it with 26650, but as far as I remember it worked better with alkalines than ni-mh.

dthrckt you can add a heatsink, but it is already a lot of material, an sst-90 might get a cold hehe.
