What next?

I have 2 TrustFire 3xCree XM-L T6, one original and one clone. The clone is brighter btw!

Now looking for the next flash. I have 2 options:

- Fenix TK70 as the brifhtest led flash

- one of those E-Bay 85/65/45 HIDs.

Older brothers Flashsholics with more experience, what is your advice?

My need for a torch is pleasure but also to find my way to our island on the lakes by boat in dark and also during the dark nights on the island. We have solar-power and are located more than10 kms from next streetlights, so in the forest it is dark as in hell :)

Personally I'd chose the TK70, as I'm extremely partial to NiMH and I also like the Fenix brand.

The darker it is the less output you need. The 3 x XM-L that you have should be enough to make you go blind at night
I think you head a headlamp or two so you can quit trying to light up the entire forest

Maybe that new 7 x XM-L? I'll tell you in a couple of weeks if that's worth buying..

..but I also agree with gcbryan. Buy some good headlamp for both you and your wife. I really like my UF-H3: uniform flood, adjustable brightness, long enough runtime, ability to use both hands for whatever you are doing.

I'd buy an xpg not an xml ..i'd also buy a neutral in the woods not a cool white . the neutral looks so good in the forest it's made me stop on the path and be stunned by the color .An xre.xpe or xpg is what you want in the woods because they penetrate . they don't flood and blind you from the reflections off of everything ..trees, leaves etc ..

Same with the boat a floody xml may make you all lit up like a city but offers you no punch into the distance .Two lights I have i like for this type of application .The c-88 modded with an xpg neutral and the Fenix ld40..3AA and a 4 AA light So i can charge the AA's off of the DC from the boat battery using a duracell cef23 nimh charger

the fenix is just overkill it's nice but probably not worth the price . i got the LD-40 in the dino Direct sale for half price 4AA xpg 4 mode neutral 37$.. nice light but wouldn't want to be paying 70$ for it . i'd opt for 2 or 3 lights instead .

Xpg neutral is what you want

+1 for NW

Which reminds me: Has anyone modded his/her UF-H3 to neutral? Which emitter and were you happy with it?

Thanks for the comments so far. I said pleasure = FUN, meaning it really. Dream of having a flash that you can play with. For example light up the neighbour islands if I like :) Or chase away the crows from their night tree - the optiuon is to shoot with the shotgun and scare them away. Can just see the crows holding their feathers when the lightbeam strikes :)

Flashlights are fun, but shotguns are more fun! As they say, "Problem solved, problem staying solved!" Welcome to BLF, too, BTW. Sorry I missed your introduction post.

flashaholic hell is bright - all the time

Herr Doktor, get yourself a green laser pointer. Not only fun to use at night but birds, especially crows, hate them and totally freak out in their presence. Might end up being a new fun past time for you until they finally stay away for good and never come back to your property.

They are your friends unless they gather in your tree, crap all over your outdoor furniture and patio, and torture/kill your friendly squirrel population. Around here they are like pidgeons or black chickens. Crows are not my friends.

Hi Bob K

luckily I live above 60 degrees N and we don´t have this virus, at least yet.

Our crow populations are veery veery strong and healthy. We also have a Raven family living next to us.
