:) Newbie from SoCal

Hello!

Just wanted to introduce myself here. I started off with a small Maglite Solitaire years ago, and back then, I thought it was the best thing ever. Then I got into Search and Rescue just last year (after unfortunately, my buddy passed away - the team formed in his honor) and started looking into better flashlights. I got a Maglite XL200 and my interest only blossomed from there.

I've always been interested in budget end items (there's just something about the lower tier that grabs my attention) and so I recently got a couple of Sipiks from meritline and am waiting for their arrival. Should be here next week. :) I think I was redirected here from EDCF and decided to join in on the fun.

Hope to learn lots from you all. Thanks for having me! :)

Hello mooshisho, welcome! Glad to have you here! A lot of new members joining lately. Ah the Maglite solitaire , the flashlight better suited as a battery holder/carrier than an actual flashlight! Hey, I had one for years too, on my keyring of course.

So what lights interest you? What does your collection currently consist of? Are you into modding lights at all?

-Garry

Welcome to BLF mooshisho!

Good to have you here. Hope you will enjoy your stay!

Thank you!

Hmm... most of the flashlights I own are things that were handed to me.

So far, I have:

  • Maglite Solitaire (retired to the EDC bin!)
  • a Coast of some sort, I think 15 LED type (glove box, I just wanted the holster)
  • Maglite XL200 (mission bag for SAR)
  • Gerber Tempo (EDC keyring)
  • random little promotional 9 LED light (bed stand)

And 2 Sipiks of some sort on the way. I got it when it was on sale for ~ $8.00 shipped.

That's all for now, but I'm sure that the collection will grow, just as my knife collection did!

I'm still trying to learn everything I can, so no modding yet. :)

Welcome mooshisho.

It is really good to have you here.

Bunch of my mates did mountain rescue. What that added up to was putting stuff in you pack till your knees buckled then removing the last item. Then expecting you to walk for 3 days up mountains (OK the highest point in this country is just over 4000 feet) with that load.

I was never that strong - or that fit. But have a lot of respect for those who are.

Thank you.

Our team's been pretty good about dispersing equipment. Our packs each carry a couple day's supply of food, water, and equipment in the case that we should get separated (though that's never happened) and the rest of the load is divided accordingly. I'm only 4' 10", 92 lbs, female, so I usually only carry my own gear and smaller items such as flood lights and maybe some rope or first aid items.

Welcome to BLF and I think that XL200 in your SAR bag will soon be replaced.

Thank you! I hope to soon replace it. :) The 170-some output isn't close to being bright enough for night rescues. I do like that the beam is adjustable though, so it might stay there as a backup light. Especially when camping. :)

Welcome to BLF, mooshisho!

Aloha and welcome to BLF mooshisho!

Welcome to BLF.

Hello and welcome!

Where are you from in So Cal?

I'm in San Diego, but was raised in Whittier.

Welcome, newcomer! Get ready to be blown away by a sweat-inducing array of choices! Easy does it...that's the trick! :p

haha Thank you! :) I'm not sure if I'll take it that easy. :P Just got accepted into my first choice university and have been "treating" myself to some new goodies. :)

Welcome to BLF.

You certainly picked the right place to come and learn about flashlights, enjoy.

Welcome, enjoy your stay!

Thank you for the warm welcome, everyone! :)

Welcome to BLF! :)

You'll probably want to try out 18650 EDCs. Once you try that, there's no turning back. Get a pocket, small one with solid driven XM-L and a decently low low mode and you won't be able to imagine ever living without one.

A girl actually into flashlights. Imagine that. :)
