Trustfire X9... Modded up to STL-V2 levels ?

Thanks everyone for generously sharing your knowledge on BLF. I am really learning a lot from you all!! thanks.

On to my question...The trustfire X9 has always interested me. I saw some pictures sizing it up against an STL-V2, and they look to be very close.

-Do these 2 lights use the same reflector?

-If so, can the X9 be modded so it outputs the same Lux value as the STL-V2 (or better perhaps)?

-Are there other single cell lights that uses the same reflector as the STL-V2?

thanks!!

i'll take a beamshot for you when I get my stl-v2..my x9 is modified to run 2.8a..no clue how they will stack up, but if the stl-v2 throws better than the x9 I will be pleased..

I moded a X9 , wait for it ....

Over 5A .... yeah , the owner is just blown away with it ...

I left the driver un-soldered just in case it fried ..

Just need to solder the driver in place one of these days ... [ when he brings the light in for work ]

Sounds interesting... what driver are you using to get 5A to the LED?

If the X9 uses the same reflector, HOT DOG!!! I'm getting one (heck I might just get one anyways).

I have both, and the V2 will throw further. I haven’t modded anything yet, but I wanted a good X9 so I bought one modded by vinhnguyen that pulls over 3a. My STL-V2 is just your average DinoDirect version. The V2 clearly outthrows my X9 at long ranges.

Thanks!!

Is the difference because the reflectors are different and the V2 has a tighter beam, or is it because the LED is driven harder in the V2... or both factors perhaps?

My understanding is the XML can handle more than 3A in a host as big as either of these. I am wondering what would happen if it were driven at ~4A in the X9.

Someone will probably give you the specifics, but suffice to say the bigger reflector of the V2 is too much for a slightly overdriven X9 to overcome.
X9 is a little smaller and safer being a single battery light.
V2 has more throw and runtime.

Its the original factory driver ...

One of the wires broke of , removing some trace from the board , I re soldered the wire .. Now its single mode , and with a decent battery pulls over 5A

When I get it back for soldering , ill have to take a macro picture of the driver

Ps / Thats 5A + from the battery

Anyone replaced the stock X9 emitter with an XR-E? Did it work?

I'm planning to try that, keeping the original driver, which pulls 1.8A with the XM-L installed (eBay version X9).

vinhnguyen54 sells some modified Crelant 7G5 V2, single cell, on CPF. That has a large and deep reflector.

Good call. Instead of selling my X9 maybe I'll try this out. Might as well for the few $$ the XR-E will cost me.

Great thanks for all the replies!!
