Maybe that is their way of offsetting shipping damage complaints. If it looks like the big brown truck ran over it in the photo, people cant complain when it looks like it was run over by the big brown truck when it arrives.

in other news, last night I swore I'd never buy another flashlight w/ a pressed in plastic retainer for the tailcap switch. i guess that rules this one out lol

I think they just glued a bunch of spare parts together and called it a flashlight
lol looks like they used it for a while too. 
I picked up 10 of these for giveaways last year at $1.65/ea.
2 were DOA and the rest were overpriced.
The torches possesed the oddest odor, a mix of rubber and mothballs that wafted around during use.
