I bit the bullet and bought one. It is taller than the L2m, but not by much. The finish appears to be bare aluminum. The fit and finish are on par with Solarforce. The clicky is reverse and is a softer press button than the Solarforce. It can tailstand. The SS bezel ring is identical to the Solarforce flat ring which sells for like $4 anyway. For $8 you get a body, tailcap, bezel and lens too. The threads came lubed and all o-rings were intact. The machining on the inside where the drop in sits is a little spotty, but overall I am very impressed - it also came with an (unadvertised) very nice little nylon MOLLE/belt holster. I would not hesitate to buy another one of their hosts.
I think it would be nice to put Solarforce Store into "Budget Dealer Experiences". I've ordered from them a few times, and my experiences are positive.
Used to buy my early L2s there [ Light + battery + holster for $25 ] but then he got shafted by some members of [ the other place ] , and now he is selling other lights ...
Always meant to buy one of the Spiderfire lights to see if its the same as the L2 ...
Funny how the other place was so scared of the Solarforce L2 .. ??? [ they used to rubbish it something awful ] , butt I guess the L2 has stood the test of time .
That's pushing it even with IMR cells. It probably won't work with any protected CR123. I see about 450-500mAh from my well used IMR 16340s so at 3 or so amps you will get around 10 minutes on high - comparable to 10440 lights but a bit brighter.
I ordered 2 of these from KD yesterday, so I guess you can call me the guinea pig.
I intend on using the XM-L's in a couple of L2i's (18650), and then putting XP-G drop-in's for these hosts. I'll be curious to see what brand of XM-L drop-in is being used. I figured a KD/MF XM-L drop-in would run me $16 - $18, but for the ~$3 extra why not get a L2m host (clone) for other lego/usage.
