budget light advice for ebay

I have been on multitool.org for some time and the people there have recommended this site to me a couple times so I started looking. I think I am after something like the trustfire j2 or skyray t6. I think, this is just me searching the posts here. I have a Fenix TK70 which I love. My two brightest lights after it are a romisen I bought years ago and a costco lumenmaster that puts out 200 lumens. Anyhow, I got some ebay bucks and am hoping to buy another light closer to the TK70 in power and throw but at a much better cost. Are there any models on ebay you suggest? I am looking for lumens and throw. Thanks!

Hello and Welcome to BLF, Scrappy! Got to go to dinner now, but I predict you will get plenty o' suggestions where flashlights are concerned. An ebay vendor I like and have used is protactialshop19. Check out his stuff:

Also, lots of nice Keygos lights on ebay right now, do a quick search here on the forum for threads on folks that have purchased a few.

Cheers!

Hey, Scrappy...

I personally know of no 3 x XM-L throwers that will equal the tk70 in throw, but as for throw, the Ultrafire HD2010 and STL-V2 are the cat's meow of single XM-L bangers. The Keygos KE-5 and the Trustfire X8 are great, too. The J2 I don't have, but in the higher lumen numbers, I don't know that it matters that much to have throw only. With the amount of light these powerhouses release, you end up getting glare and such. As I experiment with newer lights, I'm liking the "wall of light" triple XM-L effect more than I used to.

I don't have any advice on Ebay, since I don't shop there, but I would like to say, "Welcome to BLF", Scrappy. I spent part of my honeymoon in Utah and I'm a bit envious that you get to live there!

Good to have you here, Scrappy.

I spent two semesters at Brigham Young University (in Utah). It's a very nice school with an immaculately clean campus. I also have family in Southern Utah. If you don't mind me asking, which part of Utah are you from?

Was that before, or after, you started your opossum breeding empire?

Aloha and Welcome to BLF Scrappy!

Hard to go wrong with a $20 Keygos Ke-5 from ebay. Nice thrower for the money. I have purchased from this seller with great results.

Oh, so, some tips for ebay...

1) Chinese retailers greatly exaggerate lumen ratings

2) When buying, make sure you put in the paypal notes to check the bodies for dings and stratches and to ensure they test the lights before sending. Chinese quality control is somewhere south of piss-poor and terrible, but we try to make do.

I shop a lot on ebay. Using PayPal you have 45 days to complain and the few times I have had a problem I got my money refunded.

I choose vendors who have good records, above 99% satisfaction. I have purchased several lights there lately with complete satisfaction. The Chinese vendors take a couple or few weeks, but I have never failed to receive what I bought and undamaged.

Choose your vendor carefully and use PayPal.

As for what to buy I just read what the folks here like and check it out to see if it would suit me.

Welcome, Scrappy!

I am very leery about eBay. There is a lot of junk there. Unlike some of the websites, you don't usually have people's reviews of the item on the page. eBay charges them per picture, so there usually aren't many pictures either. You can get an idea of whether someone is reputable by their positive transactions and you can read their negative feedback.

If people recommend a particular eBay seller, then you are probably okay. And if it is something that is so uncomplicated that it is hard to fake (like plastic battery cases) then you are probably okay.

That isn't to say the dealers don't have problems too, but it seems like you are more likely to hear about those problems. And they are a little more likely to make you happy.

Thanks for the info who far. It is very helpful.
I am in magna, which is twenty minutes from slc. I love the mountains and red rock of Utah

Racoon and Scrapy -

I lived in Utah for about 20 years. My wife is from Utah and went to Dixie college in St. George. Been in Vegas for 23 years. Miss northern Utah big time.

My father lived in St. George for about 6 years and he lived in Washington (a suburb of St. George) for another 6 years. He also lived in Kanab (in Southeastern Utah) for a couple years. He got a bachelor's degree from BYU, and got another degree at Dixie College. He died in a fire in Washington in 2004. I went to his funeral in Kanab, and visited where he died in Washington.

My older half-sister got a bachelor's degree from BYU. She also got an additional degree in California. Her daughter (my niece) is currently attending BYU-Idaho. About half of my family is LDS. Although I frequently hang out with Mormons, I am no longer LDS. I started college at BYU, but both of my degrees are from California schools.

We plan to retire in St. George. We were hoping for sooner but it looks like it will be later.

St. George is very nice. :)

Many people (not just Utahns) retire there. They have similar weather to Central California, where I'm from, and the view is spectacular. I think St. George gets less rain, but they have better air quality.

Man, it's sure grown from the sleepy town it used to be. We'd like to live in Santa Clara or somwhere outside of town. We want the country but I gotta have some city access.

Plus, you get Snow Canyon State Park! Bonus!

I bought the keygos ke5. Now, for a triple xml. I saw three options on the web. Ebay $45 for a trustfire 3 xml. cnquality $75 for trustfire j2. cnquality $75 dry 3 xml. What are your opinions?

Dry is very well regarded here, but post links to the light you are looking for on ebay.
