ok, looks like buying a commerical made set will cost me 500 bucks or more. i want to build my own for a fraction of the cost using raw materials. to give you an idea of what i want to do, i want to build a pair of lights using green led emitters on a 12v system in my boat. i plan on incapsulating the assembly in an optically clear resin housed in a machined block of aluminum stock of approx 2.5"x4"x1.5" inside dimensions. the emitters will be thermally bonded to the aluminum block for heat disipation. i've seen similarly built lights that used three emitters on a single star and had a lense on the top to magnify and direct the beam. i would like the pair to be driven at around 2 amps for the pair and produce about 1000 or more lumens if that is possible with that amp load.
I have some of these on order for some green weapon lights I am making. I will report back on them once they get here, they should be here any day. If they are decent I would go with these, but let's wait and see how good they are.
