Looking for advice on a JetBeam PA40

I am very interested in the JetBeam PA40, I love the 4 x AA format and the fact its a XM-L

There is a few questions I would like to ask about it though before I make up my mind 100%

How does the 468 ANSI lumens stack up to the MF UF drop-in 900 Chinese lumens? And is it a very significant difference?

Also about the tints, I have read that the T6 is very cool (blue) and the T5 is yellow in the middle, white around the middle and light purple around the edges, a very ugly look in my head but there was no beam shots, just someone that turned out to be a Fenix fan on the other forum. So its hard to say if its legit or not.

Aside from the JetBeam PA40 and Fenix LD40, is there any other lights in this format (preferably XM-L) worth considering?

I have about 3 weeks to make up my mind but at the moment I am pretty set on the PA40.

Thanks for anyone that can give any info or comparisons or beam shots etc.

Love the PA40 ...

For a 4xAA ... Its great ... Lumens is just fine ... https://budgetlightforum.com/t/-/4941

Thanks old4570, I have read that one about 10 times already

How do you find the tint on the T6 version, compared to a MF drop in? (tint and output maybe? I don't really have anything else to compare it to)

On turbo brightness looks great in your pics on the shed.

Can it handle turbo for long periods without any thermal issues?

I see the part about hindered performance on dry cells, what kind of battries qualify as dry cells? I still have a lot to learn when it comes to battries.

Thanks again.

No beam shots but i have the PA40W and it is a "wall of light"! It is pure white. Well built as well. Nice mode spacing with a very low.....low 4Lm? Great run times and good heat sinking and the low batt warning is very handy/accurate as well. I love mine. I use the XX"S 2500 in mine. It is 4xaa beast with a real 468 Lm. Hope this helps.

468 Lumens is real out-the-front lumens.

Chinese mfg's claims of 900 lumens is out-the-front Bull$hit, in almost every case.

I'm very curious how the PA40 compares to the 3-AA Cyclone 88 at intl-outdoors in terms of beam and brightness.

Thanks guys, anyone have a MF drop in they can compare it to? Even just on a wall, T5 or T6 it doesn't matter.

Hi,

I have both and ceilbounce-wise the MF P60 is clearly brighter on high (can't measure it). Outside the difference is less obvious, probably because the PA40 has a more focused beam, but it's there.

DRY CELL = carbon battery ...

Tint is on the white side ....

High / Turbo = Seems to handle it just fine ... [ heat ]

Y , MF P60 drop in is brighter on high , but if you get the PA40 , you wont miss the extra lumens ..

Thanks for all the replies, I just bought the neutral version.

PA40W

I am pretty sure this is my last flashlight, I wont be buying any more unless they make something else in the same 4AA format that is brighter.

Good choice, I'm sure you'll like it.

Then you should not look at the ZL Q50w when if it gets released.

What about the Sunwayman M40A? That is one hell of a light, and the build quality is off the charts.

It's a good bit more expensive than the PA40, and it only comes in CW, though. On the flip side, it puts out 600 lumens on turbo and the magnetic control ring is a nice feature.

It doesn’t has polycarbonate body though (which makes PA40 so nice to hold in winter). Also difference between 470 and 600 lumens is VERY hard to notice, and it’s form isn’t as pocket-carriable as the PA40, all this stuff makes (almost) 2x the cost of PA40 hard to justify.

I agree. I guess the Sunwayman is more suited if someone wants a thrower.

Also, the PA40 comes in that big carrying case, and that's a bonus for some people.

The PA40W really scratched my itch for LM/flood. I love it. Very well built!

@ Huny74 and Misfire, I meant 2+2 AA like the Jetbeam PA40, Fenix LD40 or Streamlight Propolymer.

There is also a Fenix LD41 due to be released soon, its a upgraded LD40 with a aluminium body and XM-L.

But it looks ugly as hell (to me anyway) and has a slightly lower ANSI lumens rating than the PA40.

+1 on the LD41.

The PA40 is somehow the better "LD41" IMO. And I like the polymer body of the PA40 and to a lesser degree of the LD40.

Still, I am waiting for the release (and the first reviews) of the ZL Q50. 800 lumen out of 4 x AA (not in your preferred configuration) makes me overlook the max anti-rolling design.
