Great to see you up and running. Looks nice! Maybe now more folks will start modding Maglites. (As it should beWink).

Ha I love modding mags, if I did not have 4 others to fin I would keep this one

Not interested in buying it, but that looks really nice, nitro! Look forward to seeing your future lathe work.

Thanks any input is fine..... I just though I'd share :) I can't stop looking at it because it looks to pretty

Nice, I wonder if it would be possible to do a spiral fin. Psychedelic.

Sure. It would basically be a very low-pitch thread.

Sounds difficult! need an angled parting tool too. if your going for increased depths that is.

What parting tool dido you use nitro. Im using hack up hack saw blades, but they just don't have the right thickness for safe parting in larger pieces.

Easy if it was a cylinder you were finning but a Mag head tapers. You would almost need something akin to an apple peeler that follows the shape of the mag head as it cuts the thread. Would be interesting to see a spiral finned light.

BTW, Nitro, I think it looks awesome! I hope to be getting my lathe soon and plan on doing the same to my mag heads (big and small).

I did a blue mag head with smaller fins and it looks awesome to.... WI'll post pics tonight after work

Tapered thread with variable pitch, hmmm, sounds like a job for the ultimate in 3-D modeling, self programming lathes, hmmm. Know anyone really good with a hand file?

You would need to manually adjust the DOC as the part turns, s-l-o-w-l-y....

@okwchin: LittleMachineShop.com has an inexpensive t-shaped cutoff blade that fits in the AXA-sized Phase II holders that works well for parting larger stock. The blade shape provides relief for deeper cuts.

I'm thinking of a spiral that changes pitch and flows onto the cylinder like an engraving

I need a mag body, how about add $5 to you, for this plus a body? Total $20
