XT-E's on the market

Kaidomain had three new emitters, 21mm, 20mm and 14mm XT-E stars yesterday. And today they have a C8 and a P60 with XT-E. The stars were prices at ~$8 yesterday (edit: below $6 today) but these lights are more reasonably priced. $8 for the drop-in. I'm ordering one.

Arent these for efficiency and rated at about 300 lumens max? I'm not 100% sure but I think I remember reading something like that.

Not really a bad thing if you need run time, but it says 700-900 lumens on KD so I'm not sure if what I read before was right or if I have it mixed up with another newer LED.

The pictures shown are really XT-E's. The specs however are a bit off as usual. The R5 bin on an XT-E is similar to an S2 bin on XP-G. So I would guess 500lm max, led lumens. Eagletac uses XT-E on their new D25 Clicky series and they give similar lumen ratings (~500 led lumens and 344 OTF) for XT-E R5 and XP-G S2, being XT-E a bit throwier than the XP-G.

Some say these XT-E's will ve XR-E's on steroids, but I guess they will be somewhere between XP-G and an XP-E in throw, with the efficiency of an XM-L. I don't think they will be as tight as XREs but maybe with the help of a powerful chip they can throw as far, without the wide spill of an XP-G.

I just ordered the XT-E P60 drop-in. We'll see how it throws in a reasonable reflector size.

I'm interested in a drop in as well but I'll wait for others to review it first to make sure its a nice tint.

KD has been fast in shipping for me. I hope these new on the shelf items really are built and ready to go. I would order a couple of emitters too but decided to see the tint and beam of the drop-in first. The prices were really high yesterday, but today they appear to have dropped a bit. They seem to sit at the XPG price range now, which isn't bad.

$10 for tripple XT-E on a 20mm star

I found some pics of them here

My understanding is XT-E's are pretty floody. So they will be more like an underpowered XM-L than a super XR-E.

EDIT: Well, maybe not quite an XM-L, but a little floodier than an XP-G. There are beam shots at Eagletac:

I don't know where they are getting more lumens from a R5 XT-E than a S2 XP-G either unless they are tweaking the driving current. The two are binned at 350mA and the XP-G outperforms at higher currents. Maybe the XT-E has a lower Vf that means a higher current draw?

All I know is that I have no clue what Silicon Carbidge is.

I think the xte and xpg are on the same size chip so beam pattern should be similar. Apparently, cree developed a lower cost manufacturing process so you can get xte's for less $. The only downside that I noticed is a higher junction to ambient rating which will likely mean lost output at higher currents. In spite of this I ordered some 4-up 25mm boards from Cutter with a warm tint and they look nice and very cheap. Putting one in a dive light where ambient is much lower.

Haha... I knew this would happen, as soon as I have managed to get the money together to create one (XT-E p60 drop-in) they start appearing. Ah well, guess I will just have to stick with my triple XT-E p60, XB-D p60 and XML-U2 with 73mm reflector (oh and XR-E red triple p60).

How do you find the pills for triple emitters in P60 sizes? I saw some 3xNichia 219 and 3x XTE's along with some matching optics at different sources but can't find a way to put them in a P60 host.

The lower section of a p60 reflector is aprox. 22mm across... so any one of these should fit with a little tinkering: http://www.cutter.com.au/products.php?cat=Leds+on+20mm+Addressable+PCB. Add a triple TIR optic and you are away.

That one looks like a MC-E out of the package, or like a family reunion.

Scroll down. :)

Ordered one Dropin to test.

Sounds good if it actually has better efficacy than XP-G and bearable beam and tint.

Ordered a 3-mode KD XT-E drop-in. I'm not expecting much different, but it seems like a pretty cheap way to play around with a new kind of LED.

Rufusbduck- what sort of dive light (host?) are you putting this in?

Oh bugger...

I took the above mentioned 5-mode :(

Is there a way to cancel order or change product at Kaidomain?

It doesn't sound like these are in stock just yet, so you can probably contact customer service and cancel or change your order.

I've been trying all week to get cutter to answer emails about that 4 xb-d. I don't want CW (or at least the higher end of that) and can't figure out how to specify tint when ordering. I'll order three if they'll do anywhere in 5k - 6k
