How do you get the "Insert/Edit Link" icon to be active?

Just to the left of the "Anchor" in the control bar at the top of the Reply Box are two grayed-out icons that look like they let you link without pasting the entire URL into the body of a post. I've been here a year and I still paste the whole URL because I don't know (or can't use) the shortcut. How to you make it work?

And WHAT the heck is the Anchor icon for?

You have to type something like a word and then select it (use your mouse left click on one end of the word, keep moving across the word and let off the left click, so the word is highlited) and then the link option will be available.

Anchor, I'm not sure.

So I can link like this?

2010 Mustang

Nope, stil working on it...

All I get is "page not found" it looks like it is looking for a BLF link.

Just put in the actual address of the web page you are linking to like http://dreammustang.com/

in the link box. It should work.

Ok, that worked. It required that the "http://" be inserted , which is unusual compared to most links I've used.

Now about that "Anchor" Icon...

Yep. when you are making html code, which is what is going on behind the link you are making, it needs to be precise, with http:// included.

Well, I think that an anchor is used to link to a different section of your post. Let's say you write a long post and in it you type something near the top. Later on, down near the end, you want to link back up to the top again. That's where you can use an anchor, so that a word at the bottom will act as a link to a word or phrase at the top.

I said "I think" that is what it is. Try this web page and see if it helps.

Kudos, Old-Lumens, very nice explanation.
