I friend asked me to order him a good light to mount on his rifle. He wants his flashlights to be of good quality so I thought that a SolarForce would be perfect for him and since he doesn't need throw the P60 format should be sufficient.
So, would this combination work good (aesthetically and mechanically) or should I consider something else.
perfect application for an L2P with forward switch and single mode drop in.
Minor note though, the solarforce attack bezel on these lights does block some side-most emitted lumens. Its not much but it equates to about a 10 Lumen reduction with an XRE. I am not sure about the XML though.
I don't now much about weapons and he doesn't know much about flashlights, so the information is scarce.
He get called out when an animal get hit by a car, don't die and runs off. He uses a Silva Alpha 6 (headlamp) as main light and he only need light just before he makes the shot. As I understood he usually shoots at short distances so an light with lots of flood should be preferred.
Today he uses an incandescent light, about 80 lumen so I guess an decent XM-L should satisfy. He really likes his warm white Shadow TC6 and I think he expects about the same lumen output.
If I had the option of any torch (that I have experienced) to be mounted on a rifle for animals out to 50 odd meters a Solarforce L2P with an XML drop-in with 2 modes: low (5% of high) and High (~2A) would be my pick. Once he has it, it will spend more time in his hands then on the rifle.
