Review: DQG III AAA (Pictorial + DQG AA Size Comparison)

DQG III AAA

Greetings everyone! We are yet again being presented with the much anticipated new iteration of the ever popular and capable DQG Tiny series. This time around the series III with important improvement updates over its equally capable predecessor the series II. The bar was set high and yet again it delivers. _the_ had already wrote an excellent review weeks ago, so I would not be repeating with another but rather I will post some photos instead plus a size comparison to the already small DQG AA.

Though this ain't a regular review, there will however be some foot-notes from my observation.

  • Model: CREE XP-G R4
  • Official product link

May I present you the DQG III AAA.

The exterior:

TIR optics, good fine knurling.

Very high quality machining/finishing, magnet + strong hook (Not retractable) on tail end.

How tall is the DQG III AAA?, Head unit.

More shots on the exterior.

Some more.

Tail end once again to show a clearer view of the setup.

The interior:

Good threading on both the battery end and head unit (head portion not shown due to poor light source) but you get the idea. Construction wise, the works are similar to the DQG AA, with a foam at the front end to ensure snug battery fit and no annoying rattling. Of note, I haven't tested the removal and screw back extensively on this unit so I couldn't tell how well the deeper seated o-ring groove will work plus I have yet to clean the unit and lube it properly. As it is, it worked pretty good, smooth action and all.

Using the light, tint in particular:

I'm amazed how warm the R4 is, I have had other R4's but this is a pleasant surprise. I simply love it. Beam shots to follow soon.

Comparison and conclusion:

Wow, my eyes must be playing tricks on me! The AA is small but the III AAA is simply tinny in comparison. A job well done Mr. Du. Hats off to you mate!

More comparison, front and back.

The parting shot.

Before I end this piece, my only comment is is "get one while stock last"

I hope you enjoyed my silly review, thanks for reading folks.

Beautiful pics and great comparison. That AAA is soo cute..

Great pictures. The AA looks HUGE next to the AAA!

Eagerly waiting for my R4...

Thanks for the review! Nice photos!!

Thanks for your kind words gents.

Haggai@ Yes that was what exactly striked me, the big brother AA was simply huge in comparison where as the AAA is small and cute. If you like warm tints I'm sure the R4 will not disappoint.

Can anyone point to a picture next to an Arc AAA?

Are there any side by side beamshots for comparing DQG R4 NW and R5 CW ?

How is the one-handed operation of these lights?

Some 1xAAA lights seem to have poor ergonomics/knurling which causes them to be difficult for one-handed use, so Iā€™m wondering how this one compares.
