Im looking for a red or green Led flashlight. Im wanting a really bright like to light up my field. I need it to go about two hundred yards. Is the color led bulbs maybe in the or does someone know a way maybe to dye one. Thanks any advise would be appreciated.

Hi

Can you please explain to the unenlightened what is the use of the red and green lights?

I see references to them, and I think it might have something to do with hunting, but I can't figure out what!

Thanks

Pete

Most animals are color blind and perceive white/blue and green/red spectrum light differently.

The claim is green/red ” spooks ” animals less while locating eye reflection or general illumination.

Your best bet is usually to get the desired color plastic filter cap. Obviously this reduces your lumens significantly but there are very few colored emitters. Special hunting lights will be expensive but might actually have a reasonably modern color emitter.

Instead, go to ebay and search for "green led flashlight". Apparently the Luxeon K2 emitter comes in various colors. Its older but its better than filtering 80% of your light out with a plastic doodad.

It also shows the XR-E light coming in green which is a great thrower if thats true.

Have no personal experience with these but they have said on a predator forum that these work good. Have been thinking of ordering one of these.

Easily done...

Are you familiar with LED flashlights and P60 hosts/tech? If not, P60 is a modular system that has standardized drop-ins with the LED, driver circuit, and reflector all built in and they can easily be installed in a compatible flashlight host body.

Manafont has a number of these available in different colors:

Red here for $6.60, I have this drop-in and it's very bright - http://www.manafont.com/product_info.php/generic-red-beam-mode-led-dropin-module-3718v-p-7807

Here's a green one for $6.60, I have this one and it's not driven very hard so not as bright - http://www.manafont.com/product_info.php/generic-green-beam-mode-led-dropin-module-3718v-p-7804

Here's another green, more expensive at $8.95; I don't have this one but it should be brighter than the one above - http://www.manafont.com/product_info.php/taiwan-3w-green-light-dropin-module-42v-max-p-5700

you can use any P60 host, my favorites are:

WF 501b - $6.30 - Small and light, but heat sinking is poor - http://www.manafont.com/product_info.php/ultrafire-wf501b-flashlight-tube-metallic-black-no-led-emitter-p-4050

WF 504b - $8.12 - Nice design with good features - http://www.manafont.com/product_info.php/ultrafire-wf50x-flashlight-tube-metal-bezel-black-no-led-emitter-p-6064

Sky ray S-R5 - $7.99 - Cool design, good heat sinking - http://www.manafont.com/product_info.php/sky-ray-sr5-flashlight-tube-no-led-emitter-p-5548

The two cheaper drop-ins I referenced are rated for up to 18V so they can be used with either a single 18650 cell or two CR123A cells using any of the empty hosts I mentioned. The more expensive green drop-in is only rated for a single cell so you would be limited to 18650 operation.

If you choose 18650 operation, these are good cells - http://www.manafont.com/product_info.php/protected-trustfire-18650-37v-3000mah-rechargeable-batteries-2pcsset-p-7941

...and this is a good charger - http://www.manafont.com/product_info.php/trustfire-multifuctional-charger-fir-10430-10440-16340-17670-18650-cr123a-us-plug-p-1205

I hope this helps!

<edited to add>I haven't used one of these, but here's a host with a integrated firearm mount - http://www.manafont.com/product_info.php/ultrafire-uf762-flashlight-tube-bulitin-firearm-mount-no-led-emitter-p-8676

Manafont states it's compatible with a pressure switch - http://www.manafont.com/product_info.php/pressure-switch-for-ultrafire-c2c8-flashlight-55cm-p-4995

Might be useful if you are wanting this for pig hunting or similar...

Welcome to BLF.

Colored LEDs are the way to go lenses drastically reduce output and throw.

I recently got some of these from Manafont.

I am making a run of P-60 drop ins using these driven at 1.5 amps if you are interested send me a PM. I estimate they put out 200lumens and they throw as far as a standard XRE Q5.

XRE Q5 1.5amps Manafont Green XRE 1.6amps

This is the host I used for the green drop-in ($6.60 one listed above). Its nice had to clean up the threads a little and lube them but the price was great and the old school camo is sweet looking. Also the 501b host you can buy the replacement tailcap and make it a pressure activated remote switch.

Old school camo 501b host

pressure switch for 501b (wish they had the camo version to match the host)

I_LIKE_CAMO_ALOT

Now if there only were red and green solarforce hosts (or any at all^^) to make a perfect fit..

I have the yellow version of the camo 501b and the quality is far inferior to the standard black 501b host. I wouldn't recommend it unless you are willing to live with poor quality machining/threads and a finish that won't stand up to normal use. The finish looks good and is a great novelty, but for my serious lights, I prefer the 'tacticool' black.

Just my dos centavos...

Built a p60 host with solid copper heat sink and PT54 red with OP reflector. Using lifepo4 16850 for Direct Drive power. Not all lifepo4 are created equal and it pays to read the specs before ordering. Some are capable of up to 20C discharge! I am getting about 8A discharge for a whopping 7-8 minutes runtime. Although I haven't run it more than a couple of minutes as it gets HOT. This will be my replacement for my green xre crossbow light. Est 500lm. Working on a Nitro aspheric PT for the 500s&w semiauto next. Sorting out the pigtail tape switch/fet solution. Too much resistance in a regular tape switch. Don't try this at home kids.

WOW 500lm for a crossbow...... Thats some horsepower!!!! Like your work Willie

Also there is a custom sst-90 green mag for sale here. https://budgetlightforum.com/t/-/8191 Please buy it so I don't spend more money. :)

Thanks everyone for the good advice. Im very new to this just trying to learn as much as i can. Thanks again

Aloha and welcome to BLF clfurry!

Thanks!

I like it when I learn something! :-)

Pete

Yes i will be using the lights for hunting wild hogs and coyotes. Thanks

It's not difficult to find what you want online. I have run into a lot of that flashlight a lot. And I do like red ones.

The bard part is finding them bright enough
