I want a multitool or a small number of multitools (to save space) that are keychain size (and protected so they won't tear my pocket), cheap, strong and have the following tools in them:
Tweezers - to pull out thorns or splinters from fingers - I think something like the tweezers on the True Utility KeyTool will be fine
Protected blade - to open envelopes and blister packages, or to expose electrical wires - something like Raker's Ring Tool but much less aggressive will do the job
Mini pry bar - maybe unnecessary if the flat screwdriver is strong enough, but I'd like something stronger like the pry bar on Raker's Ring Tool or the one on Atwood's Prybaby
Pliers would be great but not necessary
Open wrench or close wrench like the Piranha Pocket Tool's will be a nice bonus
No knife or anything that might look like a knife, please. (The protected blade is an exception, and should be the least harmful to people, so Raker's Ring Tool is too aggressive for that). No saw also.
I hadn't seen that Screwpop tool before; I would really like it if it used the slim bits like the new Leatherman tools use! Their description of its Six-functions is mildly amusing...
• Bottle Opener
• Phillips #2
• Flathead #2
• 1/4” Hex Nut Driver
• Mini Prybar (flathead)
• Punch (phillips)
Bottle opener, is worthless... Mini Prybar and Punch? Not with my keychain mini-tool! I'm surprised they didn't call it a seven-function tool and include 'key chain' as a use. Also, it could be gripped in the palm and used as a weapon in a way that would get you imprisoned for a very long time...
How about the credit-card sized wallet tools? They are flat and not too thick and contain a variety of tools. They do have knives but they are not obvious. Some do some dont.
Amazon search for Multi tool wallet found some stuff:
joe1512, thanks for the suggestion, but most such tool cards have only one or two tools that I need.
Stephen Wallace, the T10 contains a knife, maybe you meant the T5 or T7? But all these tools look like they would tear my pockets in no time, with many sharp edges.
So basically you're looking for an office-centric multitool? I always thought there was a need for them. The Leatherman Wingman was a step in the right direction, but it doesn't fulfil your requirement of no knife and having tweezers.
It's on sale right now, and it's modular. So you can configure it how you want, take out all those offensively sharp bits, and keep what you need in there. It does lack the protected blade function you were looking for, but it's got a tiny flashlight on it, so that's a bonus. I think. Maybe.
Amazing. I purchased (2) multi tools recently. I thought I had researched every tool on the planet. I missed this one. Fair price for all u get I think.
The thing about that particular tool is that it changes width as you add/remove tools. It comes in a kit, with three different length axles, which are dependant on how many particular tools you want on it. So if you only want up to 6 tools on it, you use the short axle. The grip panels accordion in and out with the width.
Unfortunately, it's got that knife blade. I don't know if you could remove it by peening out the folding axle or removing a retaining screw, but if you wanted to, I guess you could use a cutting wheel on a Dremel and chop it off.
Gerber used to have a customizable multitool shop on their website, but I don't think it's working any more.
