Has any one sucessfully de-potted a driver? (see picture...and challenge)

RE: AKOray 106 3-mode programmable

Ok, so I had a few of these lights sitting around, and I decided that i wanted to pop one open. It had been irritating me since the tail switch was going out, and I don't have time to put a new one in. I figured, "what the heck, let's just see what's inside." Well, that became something of a frustration. Oh, don't get me wrong, it was simple enough to get it open - it was even well lubed. I noticed the emitter was no longer afixed to the pill. I lifted the reflector away and *pop* the dome came right off the xr-e. Uh, ok. I got to the bottom of the pill, expecting to be able to access the driver. That's where it gets interesting...

The driver is COMPLETELY potted in hard, grey ?epoxy?. Here's the picture.

Has anyone been able to free the driver from this?

Ok, here's what went through my head when I was just starting to open up the light - "Gee, wouldn't it be nice if the driver used an ATtiny chip....and you could yank the programming off it....and flash it to another driver?" "Yeah, that would be nice. You could use a higher output driver then too...hmm...the possibilities..."

I could be way off on my thinking, but maybe not. They sure went through a lot of trouble with this light, at least more than I would have expected.

ANYWAY - thoughts are definitely welcome!

If it's a Fujik type adhesive freezing it will allow you to pull the adhesive off.

that looks like jb weld?! buy a light and take the driver out lol. for the $12 or whatever it costs, you'll save plenty of time.
