UFO style LED umbrella light

The wife brought home an umbrella light the other day . It is designed to clamp to the pole and has spring loaded textured legs to grip it . She bought it at Aldis for about $8.00 . Here it is in the bombproof blister pack .

The package was no match for my Enlan EL01a .

It only opens this far , so if you have a big pole ...

The light features a reverse clicky and the modes are sequential - low, center LEDs with small reflectors , medium , outer ring of non-reflectored LEDs , and high , all LEDs .

Foldout hangers for suspended use .

The light takes 4 AA batteries , each has it's own bay . I loaded it up with Energizer Ultimates , which cost more than the light itself .

Control shot , daytime .

Low

Medium

High

Beamshot of low on whitewall

Beamshot of low

And high

Yeah , well , it does work . And I believe my wife thinks that I will like any old light she brings home .

She's right .

Hah! That's pretty cool!

that's pretty cool

I think i'll stop in Aldis today. That'd work well on the center pole of the tarp/canopy I take camping.

4xAA?

Great review, jack.

How's the heat sinking on that thing?

I have one very similar that I hang from my tent. it provides just the right amount of light while tinkering around before bed while camping!

I saw one of those at Walmart and I was so tempted to buy it even though I have no place to mount it. I am thoroughly disappointed it has no flashing strobe mode for rave parties. I bet it would look cool mounted on a shotgun.

I brought one off ebay for under 5 bucks, its got 48 small led,s i use it to hang from the center of the tent while camping as a night light, 3 mode and it came with 4 AAA batteries that we are still using. I has a hole in the middle but will not open, but has a clip and hanging point that slides into the hole perfect for camping to hang from the center of the tent..

LOL

Any battery life numbers, it should run for pretty long given that its 4xAA :D

I have one of those, I used it as a table light during the big power outage we had last year. I used a 2-Liter Pepsi bottle to hold it up.

I'll confess to having a few of these as well.

Two different types in fact ... spend the extra 2$ and get the good one :)...

I made the mistake of leaving one on my dash on a hot summer day ...it ain't round any more and the back doesn't screw on any longer either ..

Done right in nice high cgi nichias .This isn't a bad idea ..maybe i'll buy some good 5mm leds and break out a piece of cherry or oak ,the drill and make a nifty lil camp/cabin light

Pretty neat. I'll have to get one of those.

I’ve always been curious about these. I like the idea and the utility of it.
I have about 15 nichia 5mm that I bought a while back that would be great for one of these with reflectors. The little nichia GS 5mm I have are a fantastic tint and claim to be among the brightest 5mm available. Nice little leds!

Well , since this old thread was resurrected I can tell you that the light is not waterproof . My umbrella is covered with a semi-permeable fabric that doesn't completely stop rain . After a fairly decent rain , the housing will have enough water intrusion to short the leds and the light will stay on until dried out .

The light does get used , though , and it works well for what it is .

Ouch.

Old thread but hey, new light on an old thread!

Any style of this light found that is actually kind of worth while?

Jack, doesnt seem surprising given its looks and price and intended use that its not waterproof, still would be nice if it was moist-proof.

Aldi have these again now, I was looking at them last week.

I think one could become my new favourite AA EDC!

so cool , realy like an UFO haha , but the lumen of it’s looks not enough.
my company also have the lighting call UFO LED Downlights

Still functions well . Same batteries .

Everyone that sees it in action likes it .

Pretty cool!
