14500 Discharged to 0V - Ruined?

I was testing run time on a light using a Trustfire Flame protected 14500 battery. I would check on it every now and then, but in about three hours when I checked the light was out. I could turn it on and it would run for a few seconds.

When I checked the voltage it was zero. I have placed it into the charger, but wonder if it will charge again or if it is ruined having discharged to zero/

Thanks, Jerry

Jerry protection has tripped. place the cell into your charger for 0.5sec and the voltage will "jump" back to 3.10V

what he said ^

Thanks, it did. :) You must be a genius.

I have a flame 14500 that tripped a few months ago, never been able to revive it - I've only tried my chargers, though I understand there are other ways to do it as well.

The battery charged to 4.2 volts. Thanks for the help.

Hi!

I have a Trustfire 14500 protected that reads 0.0volts. I tried putting into the charger for a short time but it still reads 0.00 volts. Note that this may be a new battery. I read somewhere (but I forget which thread) that someone had an unlikely trick to solve these types of problems.

Any ideas!!!

I ordered 6 batteries from Meritline. They are LONG - 26670 but that's not the worst of it. The third battery I crammed into the charger reads 1.7volts and will not take a charge. ANY IDEAS PLEASE?

You can reset it by briefly paralleling it with a good cell.

The easiest way to do this is to sit both cells on a steel rule with small magnets negative down and touch the positive nipples quickly with a small screw driver blade.

If you have a Pilla charger press the reset button for that channel.

(I thought I already posted this but it didn't seem to take.)

Meanwhile, my smallest magnets are 10mm and too large for the 14500 negative end so I connected the negative ends holding them against some pliers (tips) and then I shorted out the positive - and MAGIC - IT WORKED! Thanks again.

Kuma: the reset using a charger only take a split second. I use one of my cheap ones, as the Xtar WP2 II won't do it:

Place battery in charger.
Plug it in.
Immediately unplug.

Check with DMM. You might need to try several times to get timing down for what works for you.
