Low-cost copper pills, spacers, optics, drop-ins (Updated 23/10/2022))

Hello!

Is this stuff what I think it is?: DIY 20.8mm(D) x 16mm(H) Aluminium Driver Pillar Set for LED Flashlights

Compared to my clones, the shelf seems thinner (located a bit upwards) and the threading is longer. I have a couple of 'em and they use a different pill threading  ; the bodies also differ a bit in lenght.

Cheers ^:)

Yes, they should fit. If they exist, I suppose nobody will be interested in same design copper pills for $13-15.

Not sure how much of the cost is the material/effort of cutting copper.
Have you made any pills with the back plane out of aluminum?
That would avoid the metal-on-metal spalling/corrosion
For 1-2-amp power the little zoom lights should be ok for heat.

I tried asking at that page Barkuti points to whether anyone knows what those fit (or don’t fit)

I want someone to invent a little magic box into which I can put a threaded item, and have it read out the definition of the thread so it can be matched!
But I suspect a lot of cheap flashlights don’t even use a standard thread specification (sigh)

For cheap hosts like the SK68, it might be preferable for a host to be provided with the pill, because of how many inconsistencies there are out there.

Material cost of such parts is less than 10% from machining cost.
I dont think there is any need in any aluminium pills.
Those pills should fit well.
As I can say most cheap lights have metric threads, while more expensive one mostly have some exotic shape threads.

> Yes, they should fit. If they exist

DX apparently has sold out of them.

Mmm, not so sure. My cheap hosts' hollow pills measure 14mm, which is 2mm short of that (now out of stock) pill at Kaidomain.

Agree. I think it would make much more sense to get on machining custom, well designed hosts.

Yesterday I stacked a barrage of sense resistors on a 3-mode SK68 clone driver in order to seriously improve the driving current with Ni-MHs, and added another boost cap. Result: neither visual (tailcap sprint bypassed) nor multimeter tailcap amps discernible.

Particularly I thought that, since the crappy boost driver had not li-ion low voltage protection/shutdown, and not wanting to make any sort of exotic mod to put a 14500 protection PCB inside the pill, I'd go the Ni-MH route. But alas, driver replacement too? The whole idea is stupid I now think, a good li-ion 14500 is an under-developed crap too, and fitting one of those new 16650s would require a custom-crafted tube extension. The whole sheesh is an unbeliebable pile of… sheesh; a good pilled Ultrafire XM-L2 SK98 plus an XP-G3 is cheaper and will easily blow away any ignominious frankenstein improvement mods over SK68s, it's a failure by design.

Sorry for the rant.

Cheers fellows ^:)

You rant for me too.

Alas. MtnElectronics had one decent 1xAA boost driver, now down to none for sale on the site.
RMM has said that he’s had thoughts about someday making and selling a decent 1xAA/2xAA driver.
May the day come.

Convoy M1 and Kronos X5 Builds. Right off everything was received extremely well packed in plastic case’s, Most Excellent! The usual prep and pre-fitting, go’s with out saying, making sure surfaces are flat and smooth, I pre-assemble everything, just don’t need the Oh chit’s in the midst of your builds, whether it’s the custom parts or the host, it happens!

Everything received was well engineered and machined, but some de-burring and finishing, polishing is expected. I had to open up the lead holes a bit for 20awg silicone wire, .148” (3.77mm) no big deal!

Only problem(s) was with the Khatod optic fitting for the M1 pill which I came up with 2 way’s to get around it. EDIT:The Kronos X5 the bezel would not close all the way, so I choose not to use the lens, instead of removing stock from the bottom of the pill, again no big deal, the o-ring seals the optic in any ways! :+1: EDIT EDIT EDIT: I had the SS ring upside down, on the X5, It Fits Perfect if the o-ring lip is up! My bad! BUT+ It works for me beacuase I don’t like to use the glass, I like the emitters/optics as close as possible to the main bezel, so there ya go, learned something else today! Big thanks to you kiriba-ru for helping me out and being concerned about your products!

Clearance the legs of the Khatod optic, or clearance channels done by filing. If I build anymore, I’ll use the clearance channels filed into the pill, because I stressed one of the legs and scratched the bottom of one of the optics, which can be seen when looking into the optic in moonlight mode, but dosen’t show in the beam.

All and all extremely happy with these builds using your custom parts! Excellent job “kiriba-ru”!!! :+1:

Very nice mod, I have parts for the Convoy M1 quad, but I am still looking for the optics. It has proven difficult to find it without paying a small fortune in shipping.

Yea, and their expensive to boot on top of it! I like triples much better, 4 LED’s is way too much for 14500, let alone a 18650. :person_facepalming: Hahaa not like a triple is easier on them. Maybe a 26650 or 32650 triple or quad Hmmm?

I have been looking at the TrustFire A8 for a quad conversion, but for now because of your great pictures, I have ordered the BLF X5 Carclo quad copper spacer+ss liner :person_facepalming: . I have a quad 219C D320 I think will be a good match for my copper X5.

Already received my order, very good packaging.
All is good, S2+ pill fit perfectly. Thanks you kiriba-ru. :+1:

Thanks Kiriba, excellently packaged and recieved very fast. I am sure I will buy more, just need to figure out what I want to do with these first. I am looking for a quad nichia 219B 5700k

s57 what host are you going to put these P60 pills in?

Despite these having a small taper at the bottom it is not nearly enough to fit a surefire branded light as I had intended, it sticks out as it will not slide in all the way. However it fits perfect with some foil on the sides in my Solarforce L2P

Just need to figure out what I want to build

Okay folks, I don't have a fancy camera or computer, just my cell phone. I did the best I could.

I don't have any build pics but kawiboy did basically the same thing I did as far as getting the M1 together. I put together a MTN-17DDm kit with bypassed springs and copper contacts and used a variety of XPL HI LED's that were salvaged from 4 Kronos X5/X6 boards. Two cool whites and two neutrals.

I've always liked the form of the M1 and in quad configuration with the khatod optic it's my new favorite light. It's well over 3500 lumens and it can really take the heat.

I loaded the little X5 with the same driver as the M1 along with 4 of the new XPG3's.

Big thanks to kiriba-ru for offering these heatsinks. They turned out really nice.

Very nice pictures, I like the bezel on the M1 :+1:

Just got some XP-G3’s and wanted to say thanks for the good packaging and nice communication!

Upcoming parts:

- X6 copper spacers

- S2+ triple pills RR

- M1 quad kits
will be ready in a week
Thinking about

- X7 copper (?) spacer

- F13 triple spacer (I prefer design that provides heat transfer to sides so it requires some anodizing sanding with dremel)
-more M2 quad kits (how many?)
-P60 empty drop-ins for single led (any optics suggestions?)
-P60 solid copper neck
Delays in production:

- U11 quad kit

  • Z1 copper pills
    Other news:
Last few Cute-3M optics in stock. Restock not possible. Probably I will have some Cute-3SS in the end of October.
Khatod PL136915 is sold out. Do we need more of them? Still no feedback here.
LL01CR-BLU03L06 (similar to Khatod PL1672UN). Same question.
