What did you mod today?

Thanks for the reply FM! Like it better than a XPG-2 regardless… :+1:

UltraFire UF-T1 XM-L2 FET10mm Driver & Momentary Switch

Nice CRX!

Today I glued some trits in the lanyard holes of my D25C ti.

I also never liked that the head always needs to be a bit unscrewed for the L-M-H setting. So I put a piece of kapton tape on the battery side of the pill. Now I can keep the head fully screwed in, as eagletac should have designed it :).

219BT 4500K Times 3

Thorfire TG06 modified to a reverse clicky with a pilotdog lighted tailcap, FET+1 with A6 firmware (couldn’t find my TINY25’s), and an XPL V6 3C.

Pardon the blurry photos.

Finished my motorcycle auxiliary lights today as well.

xhp50’s in 12v configuration with a 3 amp driver for each. 36 watts from each plus the highbeam from the 7 inch JW speaker copy. Also running upgraded wiring/relays for the headlight.

Nice. What driver did you use and have you posted your bike in the show us your bike thread?

I used two of these drivers.

These lights were used as hosts. Stock they’re pretty terrible. Tint was completely different between the two, and they came with XML’s that weren’t driven very hard. As hosts they are pretty good. I even reused the optics with the xhp50’s. All in cost worked out to something like $65 USD including a pair of 30A relays and wire.

I’ll get some pics up in the motorcycle thread after I get the belly pan mounted in the next couple of days.

Thanks. :+1:

Sorry to spam the thread, but I spent the day playing with my new reflow setup. It sure beats a heat gun/frying pan.

I modded another Thorfire TG06. This one will be a gift to someone who will appreciate nimh compatibility so I kept the stock driver. I swapped the XPG2 for a 5000k 219C. Kept the forward clicky since it works well with the odd stock driver configuration (HLM no memory). Added a bleed resistor to the stock driver. Then another PD68 Rev 5.1 lighted tailcap, this time in green.

I measured lighted tailcap draw on this one since it’s a gift and I wanted to give some idea on drain when not used frequently. This one pulls 0.24 mA from a fresh cell. Configuration is a 19.1k resistor for all 3 channels and green LEDs. Brighter than it needs to be, but my 36k resistors are still in the mail. Going off of info from the X5 group buy thread I expect well over a month from a fresh 650ma efest.

Installed four XP-L HI v2 1A emitters and changed MCPCB polarity of my Manker E14

Nice! How is the beam pattern with the XP-L Hi in this optic?

It is a purer white than the XP-G2’s which were on the green side.
The hotspot is tight & surprisingly round with minor irregularities around the edge and the spill fades out to the flowery pattern but you wouldn’t notice it in normal use. I do like it better now than it was, but i like the XP-L HI 1A emitter.
Damn bright!

Modded a Jetbeam DDC20.

This is an old 500 lumen XML light that I picked up on clearance. I swapped out the emitter and star for a 4000K XPL HI 5A2 tint. I also swapped the battery tube for an 18350-sized tube from a Jetbeam DDC10.

It’s not the brightest light around and the UI isn’t fantastic. It’s also quite large. Running on a single 18350, the light is bigger than my Zebralight SC63w and DQG Tiny III and IV.

It has one unique and sorta gimmicky (but cool) feature: A 7-segment digital red LED display that shows the mode and battery level. The battery meter seems to work pretty well.

This isn’t as good as the display in the Imalent lights, but on the other hand, the Jetbeam is smaller than the Imalents and the button is easier to use.

Built 6 FET+1 Drivers with A6 firmware, then assembled 3 Convoy S2+ hosts and potted the drivers, assembled 3 more Eagle Eye X6 Triples and again potted the drivers. XP-L V2 3A HI used throughout. A friend rides mountain trails in Cali and his friends have inferior lighting, he says when they lead he can’t see squat! We should be fixing that little problem…

X6 triples are for the bike’s bar, S2+ for the helmet.

6 Lights in a day, got kinda rough on the old back!

The black X2R receives the typical XP-L HI & FET+1 treatment.

15mm FET+1 with bistro FW from RMM: in the charging PCB the first two pin are removed, the second one replaced by 22awg teflon wire and connects to the positive side of the driver, third pin is shortened and soldered to the ( - ) ring. Two extra solder points secures the microUSB connector housing (connected to ground) with the new driver. It is very firmly secured and won’t require potting.

The XP-L HI V1 1A on 16mm noctigon sits perfectly on the shelf. The centering ring is made by Hoop, XP to 7mm size. The new convoy 7mm centering also works but this one is black and looks better.

Now it is much brighter and has better UI. The beam although being tighter is still the floody type, as it seems very difficult to achieve any throw with this small OP reflector, even smaller than the S2+ reflector.

The integrated charging system remains untouched but with a caveat: the light has to be ON for charging. There is nearly no impact on the charge rate if I leave it in moonlight:

On the other hand, it now works as an usb powered light. Drawing up to 1A it provides decent lighting in an emergency situation.

Nice! I’m working on mine right now. Does hoop just sell those or did you custom order?

He already had those designed originally for the S2+ reflector, but they also fit the X2R nicely.

Hey, you should start an X2R mod thread. I was planning to, but you finished your mod before me.

PD I think you should! My mod was too minor for a mod thread, plus you did the teardown first and have the driver project going! Besides I’m not really good at keeping threads updated…
